Looks like my XTC is one of the older models, since the power chord is attached to the amplifier itself. How do I tell how old my XTC is or when its made? The serial number is 035040. Also assuming its old, is there a major difference not having the red channel gain revision, what changes were made to the red channel based on the new gain revisions?

That is a 2005 model made in March (03) 2005(5) the 40th (040) unit made after they switched from the serial sign to the number system. I thought the red channel high gain mod became standard in 2004.

Cool, sounds about right then. The original owner said he bought it about a year and a half ago. I hope mine has the revision then. When did they start using the attachable power plugs? My XTC has the power cable attached straight to the amp.

NM: Found more info on the Bogner Forum, it looks like 2006 is when they started doing the Detachable power cord, and 2004 is when they did the red channel gain mod.

I had an Uberschall made around that time in 2005 that had the power cord attached. I don't know when they changed.

Also. Check the date on the output transformer. It should be around the same time in 2005. My XTC serial number dates it to Dec. 2006 but the OT sticker says Jan 2007.

Ah. Never noticed the date on the output transformer. It says Feb 2005. Thanks

Aug 2004 and on has the red channel revision. The only other update they made was different brand of relays and detached pwr cord, everything else is the same.

Also on their website it says if you use Half-power mode, to switch the impedance output of the cab to half of the original output, so if I run a 8ohm cab, do I have to switch it to 4 ohms? If not, will I hurt the amp? Does this apply to other amps as well?

^ Yes. Put the XTC on 4 ohms out when playing 1/2 power mode into an 8 ohm cab. Not sure what is correct when you switch it to "old" which cuts it to 25 watts and then to class A which cuts it to 7 watts.

It's funny, when I got my XTC I played it for 7 hours non-stop that day in half power mode 8ohm into 8ohm cabinet & nothing happened to it. Of course I was kicking myself the next day when I read the manual.

Last time I checked the bias on my XTC it was incredibly high... like 60 ma a tube. Then I realized it was set on 'old' and class A. Once I switched those it went back to normal range. I found it interesting how high the bias went in those settings though.
