Hi,
Bought a mint 2016 XTC101B (EL34, Class A/AB) Yesterday. Will start running it properly tomorrow or on Monday so I thought I’d ask Your favorite settings for green, blue and red channels. Any settings suggestions for cleans or very very slighlty distorted cleans? Any VH type blue channel sounds? Singing lead sounds on red channel?

I have a Marshall 1912, w. 1x12 / 150W rated speaker, cab currently as well as a Suhr reactive Load IR -> Genelecs setup. Any experience on the XTC thru reactive loads? The Bogner 212CB, which is the closed back and very low in height, looks cool and small. Any experience of this cab with the XTC? Thank You! :)

I just tried it once in a Store. All the switches to highest Gain in the Red Channel Gain on 7-10. Worked for me. I think the Bogner Rear-Loaded V30 4x12 is the right Cab for the Amp.

Any experience of the XTC101B with a reactive load?

Just looking at mine now.
I like my Green channel with the vol 1 almost max and using the gain knob to bring in the level. It doesn’t take much to be loud anyway. Treble and Bass around 2pm and mids around 10am. Pres up also. Nice loud scooped Fendery type clean for me.

Blue and Red with most knobs around 2-3pm except the Vols around 9-10am.
High structure. Pre Eq’s to taste. Sometimes I’ll use blue as the plexi mode, if I want to punish my ears for a bit.

All I usually do is adjust the volume levels to how I feel on the day and the rest is all set to go.
Mine has a mod toggle on the red channel in back, can’t recall what it is, but I like it in the less saturated selection. Sometimes I’ll run a cable on the loop and bring the level all down.
Haven’t played it recently tbh.

Here are my settings. I've had this amp for a decade and it took a while to dial in. This is what works for me. Clean, Crunch, Lead. The popular clean channel trick never sounded very good or worked for me. I use a Bogner 4X12 with Greenback / Vin 30 mix.

one of the biggest things that I found with this amp is that you simply can NOT set EQ with your eyes. With most amps I just put everything at 12 o'clock as a baseline and the variance from that point is pretty tame. With my 101b, my eq "looks" kinda wild but I had to learn to tune it with my ears, not my eyes. Maybe that was common sense to everyone else, but it went against what in my mind the amp should work

Thanks, I’ll try these out! I was able to dial in very good sounds on clean and blue channels but red I need to adjust more. I also noticed the vol3 potentiometer is not working properly. I’ve been trying to find a PCB mount component for it so that it would be similar as the other potentiometers but most likely I need to order one from Bogner. Jörg at Bogner replied immediately for my e-mail and told me if I’m not able to find it anywhere else they’ll sell one to me.

Problem with vol3 knob: When I turned the volume down to zero so that it was physically against the zero setting the amp started giving high static noise and guitar volume jumped up. After that I started turnign the volume up and squeal and volume went away. At around 0830-0900 o’clock the volume came back to high level with scratching noise. When I tap the vol3 knob’s top with my finger there is scratchy noise. I will try turning the knob from 0->10->0 for some time and check if I can spray in some contact cleaner to see if it gets sorted out. The amp has been on minimal use at the previous owner and I bet the vol3 knob has been untouched for a long time. Suggestions? :)

Yes, I noticed it myself also. Quite a few forum members say they are still getting new sounds from this amp after years of using it! :D

Love these amps and have had several of them and still use it as my main gigging amp. Right now I use the 1x12 Cab with the creamback that was designed for the 3534. It sounds great. Perhaps a little on the dark side. My all time fav cab with these amps is the Dr Z Best 2x12. Sounds huge and absolutely killer.

Play, fiddle, and record yourself. Listen to the recordings with different settings. The Ecstasy feels SO good to play that it is easy to get lost in it, whereas playing in a band context (which it can do as well) might call for different settings.

The amp can be made to sound like a 100w Deluxe, like the best Marshall ever (it gets very close to the produced sound of 12301) and has it's own high gain thing.

The Metal-Stuff in their Clips sounds better with the Ecstacy, than with the Über, if you ask me. ;)
Boosting the Blue channel or a carefully dialed in Red channel on the Ecstasy is killer for metal from my experience. I owned an Ecstasy and rev Blue Uber for a while and the Ecstasy can absolutely keep up in the metal realm. It doesn't have the massive low/low mid push the Uber does....but on the other hand, it can dialed a bit tighter.

The sound here is very cool! 😎 One can almost see the settings also.
