Had a practice on sunday, there was a Laney cab in the practice room. Thought I'd use that to save me dragging mine in. Plugged it in, no sound. Turned off. tried new speaker lead. Turned on again. Cab made thud noise (making me think it's definitely connected). Tried again. Tubes flashed! S**t! Looks like the cab was duff and roasted my nice tubes.

Got my cab out the van, Herbie worked fine, but one tube LED light's on. The fuse has blown itself into a pile of glass. So I gotta buy a new set of tubes which I don't really have the cash for ATM. :(

Anyway, since bringing the amp home I noticed I've lost the fuse cover. The fuse destroyed itself and the lack of pressure on the fuse holder spring meant the lid fell out and I lost it somewhere. Anyone know where I can get one in the UK? Would Maplins sell the same kind of fuseholder? I don't really want to replace the whole fuse holder, just the cover.

Also when I ran on 4 tubes the amp sounded rather "hummy". Will that go as soon as I retube it with a full set of 6, or does that mean I've done something else, and might need to take the whole thing open and check the internal fuses? When I had my old chinese Rubys and it kept blowing them that took out a fuse on the inside once.

Replace the bad pair (both) and rebias all of them, readjust hum trimmer too. Should solve your issues.

Cheers man! Can always rely on you for an answer! :D

D'you think I'll get away without replacing the lot then? Or should I not risk it in case the others have been "traumatised" by the experience?

Check their bias and you'll see. First replace the bad pair. Normally just one is blown, but you never know. Don't forget to adjust the hum trimmer too.

Amp flipped, pots facing you on the right side of the board.

Thanks man!
Never worked with that, how do I know when it´s at the right "value"? Or when I have to turn it at all?

Amps sounds good, no hum --> don't touch the trimmer.

Haha, sounds simple enough!
I take for granted this is when playing, right?

Any idea where I can get the rear valve fuse holder cover in the UK? What's the make/model/part no? RS or Maplin would be good. RS have lots of fuse holders but I can't tell which has the right bayonnet fitting and I don't really want to have to replace the whole fuse holder, just the missing lid part. :aww:

I've asked Diezel UK. They've been waiting for a reply from Germany for the last 2 days. Any chance anyone can let me know the make/part no. faster as, unless I can order and pick up a fuse holder this afternoon on my way home from work, I'm not gonna be able to use my amp on Saturday and have to get hold of and rack all my old Marshall rack rig up? :'(

Play with two pairs of tubes then.

I'll call Peter and send him here.

I'd agree duesentrieb, I deduced that it must be Schurter by the little logo. Any of these fit Peter?

I guess you're right, I can just check inside and try to sort the hum issue for now, and play on 4 tubes for saturday. I'd definitely like the full set for the saturday after though, as we're playing Islington Academy in London. I'm perfectly capable of changing to another entire fuse holder, but don't really want to have to be doing mods to my Herbie, it was a very expensive amp and I don't want my fuseholders look mis-matched!
