Boost pedal comparison

For an already gained up amp which of these 2 pedals would be better for keeping the amps feel…blues breaker type or boss blues driver ?

Wanna try something a little different and these 2 types came to mind.

I’m always looking for pedals that keep the bouncy feel but also add just a tad more juice for leads. For me that’s more important than being transparent or whatever.

Hmmm. I have had both at one point or another, but neither stayed around long. What amp and what styles of music? Also, what is your go to boost now?

Neither of these are great for a high gain amp, but they do blend/stack well with other overdrives generally.

I would guess the Bluesbreaker would probably work best for leads, as it has the most mid content

Mainly modded Marshall type tones with Friedman amps.

I’ll switch pedals around but the metro supa boost and Chiron seem to get the most use these days. Both are pretty good at what I’m going for just wanna try something different.

I’ve got a nice TS808 and other usual suspects. I guess I’m trying to find something that adds enough to make a difference but doesn’t compress too much the way most folks want a TS to do.

I had a price of tone forever ago. I wasn’t crazy about it but that was also with different gear and me being a weaker player. Not that I’m great now but much better than way back when.

I'm liking the MXR Timmy I have so far, it's a pedal built to boost Marshalls. The EQ is pretty flat when wide-open, but you can narrow the range if you want to tighten up the lows (before the clipping circuit) or smooth out the highs (post clipping). My perception of the pedal is that when set right it just gives "something more" without making me feel like I'm playing a different amp. Here's @LPMojoGL's comparison of the Timmy and TS into a dirty amp:

If you can find one, I’d recommend either a Majik Box “Rocket Fuel”, or the Majik Box Jake E Lee signature OD. I alternate using them in front of my Suhr PT100, and Bogner Helios 100.

Try a Koko boost v1 . It’s great for everything

These are both great suggestions. I'd toss a lightspeed into the mix as well, for marshall flavored amps. Maybe a TC Pre clone? VFE Standout or Dragon? There's a million great ones. I'd even try a lower gain MIAB style pedal like an LPD 68 too.

Both the blues driver and bluesbreaker really shine with lower gain fender and vox type circuits IMO, unless you're going super "outside the box" with the tone youre going for - or the original tone that you're boosting is a lot lower gain than any friedman tone I've heard

I've got my rendition of a Buxom Boost coming soon ..... perfect for exactly this ... the ability to toggle on and off the tone stack is awesome...

For Friedman's the SD1 or Koko would be my choice. I like brighter tones though so keep that in mind.

Have a MXR Duke of Tone but only kept in on my board for a short time.

not sure about the 2 pedals you asked about. but i would check out the TC spark booster. It adds just enough gain without killing the bass. Plus it has a bass and treble to adjust. great pedal for about $50. I'm using it to boost a carvin legacy and peavey 5150. really liking it so far
