Just picked up a 5153 100 wattter. What boost/od are you guys using to tighten up the blue channel?
I play heavy rock mostly with super strats loaded with a Duncan JB or Custom.

I use a Keeley D&M and Keeley Super AT with my 5150-III 6L6 50watt Stealth.

Any screamer variant sounded good when i had one. The blue channel is where its at with those for real. It didnt like the precision drive(which i use now..mainly), or the 33 so much. Those pedals made it a super-one trick pony.

I had a Tube Screamer with my regular 6l6 EVH 50w and sounded great but my D&M keeps a bit more low end than the Tube Screamer I had.

I use the Precision Drive, but almost anything will be fine. I like the PD because I use a lot of different tunings, and the tightness switch helps with low tunings, and I turn off for Eb tuning/etc. But I do live on the Blue channel. When I get situated here after the move, I'm a)gonna crank my 5150 to break in the newer greenbacks, b) tube roll with some of the many NOS preamp tubes I have in my arsenal. That'll be fun.

on a side note, I bet the BB preamp would sound good on the blue channel...I've had so many screamer pedals, and now only own the precision drive...I used tried many with my splawns, but wish I could try some different ones with my 5150III without buying.

I had the 6L6 50 watt version about 7-8 years ago and at the time I was using the Way Huge Green Rhino but as someone already mentioned most screamer variants would probably work . I remember the blue and red channel being pretty tight as is especially the red channel. With the gain around 9 o'clock on the red thru some greenbacks was a pretty cool tone

I like TS's with 5150's and SD1's with Marshall's and Soldano's.

Same... exept I also prefer SD1's on Rectos. :)

I do think the Blue Channel on the 5150III doesn't need as much tightening up, but rather, more gain. So I would suggest one of those TS-types that don't cut too much low-end or that have a way of controlling the low-end.

I have also not really spent much time with a Klon-type and a 5150III. I would assume that would sound cool as well!

That's with the reasoning that the EVH's are, for the most part, tighter than the Peaveys.

JMO.

Maxon st9pro+ is my favorite all-around ts variant atm, with the vfe ice scream being 2nd, followed by the od808.
The sd-1 is never really a bad choice for any amp.

I use channel 3 tight for rhythm . Blue for solos .channel 3 sounds like my old 5150 thsn channel 2 . So I do it backwards
Wow, that is really interesting that you have it setup like that. I use red occasionally for Drop D stuff but honestly, blue channel can cover that ground as well.

Get yourself an EQ pedal so you can boost as much as you want while cutting or retaining the exact amount of lows you want.

Boss GE-7
Peppers Dirty Tree

Either of those EQ pedals work great.

Klone, Tim/Timmy were my favs with the 50s, and pretty much every amp.

I just can’t get what I want out of blue .

I forgot, stealth or regular?

I use a boost at home but for band practice I don't even need one but playing punky type rock. I have the gain below noon too.

The blue would be great for punky stuff
