Boss DD-3 Settings??

I picked up a used dd-3 today to see if I could successfully integrate it into my rig but I have never used a delay before. I am going for a van halen style delay sound (shocker!!) but maybe a little more subtle. Ultimately I want to dial in a setting that can be left on all the time. I have come up with some decent sounds playing it in front of my roland cube but hopefully it will sound better in the loop of my amp. Playing classic rock through a 5150 iii 50 watt. Any suggestions are appreciated.
 
I run mine,right to left - 9 oclock, 10 oclock, 2 oclock mode dial set to 800 ms. Thats for leads,i don't think I would leave it on all the time.

This vid Joe B talks about his DD3 settings. I think he says all at 12 oclock if he's leaving it on.(around 55 sceonds in.)
