Episode 37: Boss MZ-2 Digital Metalizer
Boy, the MZ-2 is a nice surprise!! I never took this pedal seriously until I bought one. Man, it is a cool pedal! Ok, let's move on with the review.
I think the name of this pedal really puts people off: Digital Metalizer. Ok, so digital and metal don't really go together. Fortunately for us, the 'metal' side of the pedal is a very nice analog distortion. Actually, it's probably one of my favorite Boss drive pedals. I know, I can't believe it either. It sounds very full, has a great EQ control, and has a nice range of distortion. It's only metal, in terms of the amount of gain.
Luckily, the 'digital' side of the pedal only pertains to the 'doubling' and chorus effects, which are modes 2- 6. Basically, you get a small delayed signal used to thicken up the sound in modes 2-4, and a cool chorus in modes 5 and 6. Mode 6 has a great chorus effect!
I haven't tried this guy in stereo, but I can only imagine that it sounds awesome! I will definitely do a follow up with the stereo function of this bad boy.
Overall, I strongly suggest picking up one of these. They are somewhat tough to find, but it will be well worth it!
