Episode #16: Boss HF-2 Hi Band Flanger

The Boss HF-2 was one of those pedals I had heard about way back when I was getting into the 'rarer' bunch of Boss pedals. Ok, these aren't rare per say, but they are not one of the run of the mill Boss pedals you see used at the music store often.

To my ears, this HF-2 produces a more subtile, musical type of flange as compared to the Boss BF-2. From what I understand, the HF-2 combines the dry signal with the flanged signal, which is shifted an octave up. This gives the effect a little more separation, and that's why it sounds more musical to me.

Flange is not an effect I use often. It's kind of like the cousin to the phaser, but both do have their application.

The HF-2 is a pedal that seems to have a following, but not on the level of say the DM-2. That reminds me... I have a very cool review to film tomorrow.

Boss pedals are so underrated, sometimes frowned upon

Keep up the good work

Thanks man, it means a lot!

Boss pedals are awesome, I have no idea where the stigma comes from. The only boutique pedals I really own are Barber pedals, and a handful of others.

I think they're just too common to be cool (for most people)

It's why they're so fun to collect though I think
Like sports cards, some are easy to find, others are more rare, and it's always very cool to find the rare one

Boss pedals easily hang with any boutique offerings. In fact, quite a few boutique pedlas are nothing more than a clone of a Boss pedal. I still have a few on my board...nothing so far has topped them.

This! Most boutique pedals are either Boss clones or some sort of variant on the Tube Screamer. As my Boss collection grows, my boutique collection dwindles. Well, I still keep my vintage MXR and my Electro Harmonix stuff.

Yes certain Boss pedals can't be beat, I'm running a BF-3 Flanger and a 1982 OC-2 Ocataver on my board.
