I just got a mint condition Boss SE-70 locally this past weekend, and over the last couple of days i have been using it in a Wet/Dry rig with my Boogie MKIII and a Peavey Classic 60/60 poweramp for the wet side.

First off, the unit is extremely easy to use and editing patches is very simple. Also, it took all of 2 minutes to program it up for MIDI program changes with my Custom Audio Electronics system. You can also set it up for control changes too, but all i really need is basic program changes so i can switch between patches.

The effects in the unit are extremely nice!! I use micropitch or chorus with delay and reverb for my clean sounds, and the SE-70 does that sound very well. The plate reverb sounds great and you can EQ the high end to make it really warm. Same for the delays too, you can get really modern delays or make them sound like analog delay too. The Micro-pitch shift really cops that 80s wide sound, and in stereo it sounds absolutely huge. It has a 16Stage chorus, which can be dialled in to get very lush chorusing. I prefer it to the chorus in the Intellifex by far.

As far as transparency.. IMO it is more transparent than the G-Major and the Intellifex i also own. I also much prefer the tone of the FX in the SE-70 compared to those other two units.. The G-Major has its own tone happening, as does the Intellifex. But the SE-70 definitly keeps the actual tone of the amp better than the other two units, and thats whats important to me!

All in all a killer little unit which i scored for a very good price. Not to mention its only a half rack size unit which saves space.. and it is light as a feather!  Now i can have the FX and Line mixer all in 1U rather than using 2U of space.

Definitely sounds like a step up from the se-50. The choruses on the 50 were terrible IMHO.

Yeah maybe the SE-70's chorus is improved compared to the SE-50.. i know that the SE-70 can do a whole lot more compared to the SE-50 as far as algorithms go..

I still think the micro pitch with a few milliseconds sounds nicer though  What can i say... im an 80s junky :D  Just about every patch has seriously greasy reverb and delay!!!

Also FWIW.. im using the unit in series and with no line mixer. I would expect that it will sound clearer when i run it in parallel in my CAE Mixer!

LOVE mine... <$200 to my door... It'll do the Shimmer/Crystal Echos thing that the Edge does, but also a lot of other great stuff like you've mentioned. I'm going to add it to my project studio since I've got an Axe-FX now for my guit-rig. But, now that you reminded me... I might have to pick up another. :)

Awesome!! Is there a site that gives the settings for the Crystal Echos/Shimmer effect? Or is it a stock patch on the unit?

I'll try to dig up the info... did you get the manuals? There's a TON of stuff in them. I remember the algorithm is Guit-Multi-2, or something like that. Then set the pitch shifter to +12 and I forgot the suggested feedback setting of the PS... Then you set the reverb to plate, and I think full wet too, don't remember for sure... I'm having trouble finding the site that mentioned all this.
