I just got a mint condition Boss SE-70 locally this past weekend, and over the last couple of days i have been using it in a Wet/Dry rig with my Boogie MKIII and a Peavey Classic 60/60 poweramp for the wet side.
First off, the unit is extremely easy to use and editing patches is very simple. Also, it took all of 2 minutes to program it up for MIDI program changes with my Custom Audio Electronics system. You can also set it up for control changes too, but all i really need is basic program changes so i can switch between patches.
The effects in the unit are extremely nice!! I use micropitch or chorus with delay and reverb for my clean sounds, and the SE-70 does that sound very well. The plate reverb sounds great and you can EQ the high end to make it really warm. Same for the delays too, you can get really modern delays or make them sound like analog delay too. The Micro-pitch shift really cops that 80s wide sound, and in stereo it sounds absolutely huge. It has a 16Stage chorus, which can be dialled in to get very lush chorusing. I prefer it to the chorus in the Intellifex by far.
As far as transparency.. IMO it is more transparent than the G-Major and the Intellifex i also own. I also much prefer the tone of the FX in the SE-70 compared to those other two units.. The G-Major has its own tone happening, as does the Intellifex. But the SE-70 definitly keeps the actual tone of the amp better than the other two units, and thats whats important to me!
All in all a killer little unit which i scored for a very good price. Not to mention its only a half rack size unit which saves space.. and it is light as a feather! Now i can have the FX and Line mixer all in 1U rather than using 2U of space.
