Ok guys, Episode 3 of my Boss pedal reviews is up!
Episode 3: Boss DF-2 Super Distortion & Feedbacker
This is kind of an odd pedal and I didn't really know what to expect from it until I actually tried it out. Basically, it's a Boss DS-1 with a 'Feedback' function.
The Distortion side is pretty much what you would expect. It doesn't sound good on a clean amp, but works much better in front of a slightly overdriven amp. In fact, I had to set the level control to max just to have the distortion be the same volume as the clean amp itself, i.e. unity gain. In other words, don't use this on a clean amp!
The feedback element is interesting, and actually works. After you strum a chord, hold the footswitch down and an 'overtone' feedback note sustains. It actually blends pretty well when you have the chord sustain along with it. You must strum the chord first before you hold the footswitch, or else it will decide on a random note to sustain.
I got this on ebay, and probably paid a little too much. Although, this is the rarer 'Super Distortion & Feedbacker' as opposed to the more common 'Super Feedbacker & Distortion'. Dimarzio holds the rights to the name 'Super Distortion', so Boss had to change it.
Overall, it's a cool pedal. It probably won't end up on my pedalboard, but it's cool to have!
