Bought some tube retainers for my 6550's, but....

There is no rubber gasket piece like there was on the retainers that came with the Herbert I briefly had... so there will just be metal to glass contact... no believe it or not, tubes are very durable, I've taken an old pair and deliberately banged them against one each other and I was surprised after awhile I actually had to hit them really hard to get the to break, anyway....

Is anyone using tube retainers where there is just glass to metal contact? And issues? I'm a bit worried, I ordered them from The Tube Depot... and they said they had never heard of them coming with the rubber gaskets? Anyway, any advice would be great, thanks!!

Come to think of it Chris... weren't you running 6550's AND KT88's in your Herbert? Looks like someone else is a size queen...

I've had the spring type retainers in my 2555 for 23 years. No issues.

What in the HELL do I use to unscrew the little nut from the bottom of the chassis that hold the tube socket in place? Seriously, the ones further to the side of the amp literally look like they are impossible to get to!

Unscrew it, the nuts are tight in the chassis.

Screws are standard metric M3 (3mm) size.

My VH4 and Herbert had the metal tube retainers and I never had a single problem with them.
Also, many Marshalls use metal tube retainers without problems.
Rubber might actually melt from the heat of the tubes, after some use.
