Broderick is awesome. He actually plays REAL classical guitar very well too. I majored in Classical Guitar Performance at a university program headed by Christopher Parkening back in the mid-80s and any time I see another big name rocker dabbling in classical I'm never too bowled-over (Randy Rhoads, Alex Lifeson, etc). But Chris is definitely one who's got the nylon chops to get the job done. I've also seen some very good nylon work from Rik Emmit and Steve Hackett.

The guy is definitely in the 999th permille when it comes to technical skills

Too bad he can't write a song to save his life...

I prefer his classical to his "shred"

Amen to that. I think he's an amazing technical player. But his playing doesn't move me and speak to my soul. He doesn't have the fire. In that regard, I actually prefer Mustaine's playing. He's not so slick/perfect that he seems like he's mailing it in.

And amen to that as well. Though I used to be all about "virtuosity" when it came to my taste in players... I'd rather hear Dave Gilmour pour-out a slow 20-note lead of technical mediocrity/simplicity than ANY shredder playing a thousand notes. I must be gettin' old. I want guitar solos to move me and I want regular bowel movements!

Pretty amazing guitarist....I don't agree he can't write just because he has chops....he did some really cool stuff with Jag Panzer. Chops have their place, and a david gilmour solo as much as I love it doesn't fit on a very heavy metal track.....apples and oranges. But I can understand. For me the tones a lot of guys are using when they blaze is just bad...not a pleasant timbre, grating really. The guys who shred with a fine tone and have some fire are something completely different....the fizzed out stuff just detracts from the beauty of it. Guy needs a splawn or a good marshall or something lol.
