Hey guys, Ive been downsizing a lot and now in the process of reconfiguring a rig. i sold my pedalboard completely awhile ago along with my rack effects, so aside from a crybaby wah I have nothing. Looking for a four cable method solution to handle and provide modulation and possible front end overdrive, no need for modeling as i will be playing through an amp. (prs Mt-15 enroute) Unless of course the suggested piece ie: line6 pod go - is the best option and can easily have the modeling amp/cab sims turned off.

I love the sound of an amp and a cab, just lookng to add some flavor occasionally or to mess around with effects for inspiration. In the past i have used a tc g-major and like that a lot, but id rather keep it on the floor. Never tried the g-system, but can only imagine things have gotten better recently. An expression pedal could be handy for either pitch shifting and or volume swells.

I will not be touring or even playing out, just jamming, learning songs and recording tunes.

So, I am curious as to your experiences and recommendations.

Thanks in Advance.

So many good options out there, depends on what price you’re looking at, but Fractal FX8 on the used market may fit the bill. FM3 or Line 6 HX Stomp

I’m not overly concerned with price, I don’t feel like I need a $1600 helix though. Lol

I’ve just picked up a hx stomp for similar reasons and to act as a back up should my amp go down. It’s a lovely sounding piece of kit, easy to get good tones out of it and easy to use as well, line 6 knocked it out of the park for the stomp. Only draw back, it’s only got three buttons but there’s loads of videos out there about how to make the most of them. Other than that the eventide h9 also gets my vote. Not as user friendly as the stomp and doesn’t have modelling but being eventide the effects are second to none.

Definitely go with the FX8. It‘s definitely your best bang for the buck and an excellent unit.

Ohh, man that FX8 looks nice.. with the pedal too! Does the fx8 have a whammy pedal/pitch shift function. I Gotta get my Morello on.

+1 on the FX8. This is the first time in 25 years that I don't a piece of rack gear. I have been through them all - this is the best sounding, most transparent piece I have owned, AND it comes with the foot switch!

I just watched a video that had the effects tied to amp channel switching on the fx8.. through a MarkV. That is next level right there.
It looks like fractal has moved on from these though and doing the fm3 only... so a used is mu
Only
Option?

They’re bulletproof so no reason not to buy one used. You can get them at almost half what they were new

Alright, so now Im wondering for ease of use maybe an AX8?? im sure its possible to run with amp sims off, yes? Then i might record direct and still monitor via amp..

There are a lot of options, the fm3 is basically the same price as a used Ax8..sometimes the Ax8 is more.lol

I have both AX8 and FX8, and I use them as different tools for different purposes. The FX8 has the relay switches built in which will change the channels with my Mesa Mark IV - no need for an additional foot switch. The AX8 is used with the FRFR speaker, along with amp and cab sims on. Both great tools.

Line 6 HXFX (HX Effects). no amp modeling and can be used as a midi foot controller.

Another vote for FX8. It has a cleaner signal path (ie ultra transparent) for 4cm than any floorboard modeler. You won't find a better all-in-one solution if you don't need the amp sims.

My only complaint is the midi implementation which has its limitations, but the relay controls are awesome.

Thanks guys, it’s a little disappointing to see they have already moved away from the Ax8/FX8.. technology is moving so fast, it’s discontinued to quick. I always liked my
Gmajor and came back to it many times, even after a brief fling with an axefx2.

I’m going to go cheap for a minute and try the pod go. Seems like it has just about everything I need at the moment. Even easy disabling of the amp/cab sims. It’s a whole new rig,
So.. it may change! Lol

Check out the boss ms3. I’ve got one and it is a great little effects box to run 4cm and it will change amp channels. It has the whammy/pitch shift feature as well. (y)
