Just throwing this around.. may be looking for les paul style guitar that I can play hard and gig out with..don't want to spend the bigger dollars on a real les paul custom.

Has anyone had any experience with the oversea models stated above?? Good/bad/indifferent.. I know Im not going to get the higher quality of wood/pickups/etc but would still like a solid, well built, and playable guitar... the epi's I've tried just feel cheap to me. I know edwards and burny's make the long tenons and edwards still does an ebony board. Any opinions would be great... thanks guyz

I've never played an Edwards or Orville, but my buddy played a Burny for years. I temporarily owned an Agile baritone LP awhile back and he fell for that, replaced his Burny with an Agile, not baritone though. He thinks it's much better, Burny is his backup now.

So maybe check out Agiles. Their LPs are really good, some of their other lines are trash though. I'm not a huge LP dude though so I can't say much.

Just got this edwards yesterday and so far im loving it. Previous owner had a dimebucker installed so whenever i get a decent pup in there i can give you a better idea.

Not sure about Orville and Burny, but my Edwards LPC is a pretty sweet guitar. Low action. Good hardware and fretwork.

I have not played the newer stuff but this late 70's early 80's made in Japan Burny I have is a great guitar, it is damn near identical to my '95 Gibson LPC as for build spec's...the only thing I didn't care for was the factory pickups to be honest.
It's for sale if anyone is interested, I have a ad in the for sale forum

I have a triple pickup Burny Custom right now and used to have a LP std one a few years ago. Both were/are great. Would buy another one in a minute. Got both shipped from Japan. No problems. I Like that they usually list the weight so I don't get stuck with a tank. Usually need a pickup change and refret if you want bigger wire. I believe new Edwards come with some decent sized wire on them. My Custom is Japanese made from the 80's and my std was Korean, I believe (found out after I got it as Japanese). It didn't matter, once a JB was in it it sounded and played as good as my '83 Gibson

I tried an Edwards tele once and it was very solid. Nice guitar.

Burny, Orville, Edwards, they are all pretty nice. Would probably go with an Edwards though. Especially if you are buying a newer guitar vs. vintage.

All makers have their Jewels, and their duds. Its always a safe bet to play them before committing to buy. I always play them unplugged. If they sound awesome with out plugging into an amp, you know you have a winner. The electronics can always be replaced.

My two cents, any ways.

I've got an Agile 3000 series. Ebony fretboard, QC seems very good, no flaws. It is a nice guitar, but quite heavy.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the Agile LP style guitars are solid Mahogany, without a Maple cap?

I had an Edwards Jimmy Page LP and it was a great guitar. Wish I didn't sell it  Currently looking for a Greco myself...

Generally, if the guitar is made in Japan, it's going to be great. The cheaper China made ones are good too, but the old Japan Greco and Orville are really great guitars.

I have a Greco JS-55 which is right in line with the guitars you're asking about, and it's a killer LP. Nearly all the MIJ guitars will be good values. I think if you budget in the $800 range you find quality all day long.

I have an 89 orville custom with ebony board long tenon plays like a dream. I did change out electronic's. Pick ups were not wax poted and squeled like a big dog. It is about 11 pounds so its a solid piece of slab but sounds and plays better than my gibby's...

Edwards are quality guitars....made only for the Japanese market and sit somewhere above the LTD 1000 series and below the ESP standard series. If you're ever thinking of replacing a LPC, check out Navigators...another ESP offshoot but every review I've heard of them says that the build quality, QC and materials are way above the LPC they are based on.

OP said he doesn't want to drop a lot of cash and Navigators are up there with LPCs, actually I think you can get a regular LPC for less than a Navigator.

I don't have any experience with the Burny or Orville, but I had an Edwards LPC that was one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned. Sometimes I wish I wouldn't have sold it based on sound alone, but I've learned that I can't jive with the LP shape and single cut.

Good info and opinions thus far.. thanks guyz.. Keep em' coming :)

Agile guitars often get overlooked because of their very low price tag, but I put them up with Epis. I gig with my AL-2000 every now and then when I just feel like an LP.
