Buying a Suhr guitar - how?

Does Suhr operate like Carvin as far as ordering custom guitars or do you have to go through a dealer/middle man. I am in Santa Barbara now and am thinking of heading into LA area to check out some of the dealers. But really, all I want to do is try some Suhr guitars, talk to the Suhr people about options and hopefully get an order in.
