sorry guys.

God forbid you share musical knowledge with others! It's best to keep such things under lock and key where you can furiously masturbate over how Guthrie signed YOUR transcription.

I wouldnt say im lazy i just prefer to write music, But guthrie's CD is something ive been wanting to learn, going from never really learning more then simple songs by ear (rarely) this is going from one extreme to another.

thats what im saying, if i would have just givin you my transcriptions you most likely wouldnt do it yourself. So thus you improving your ear. im telling you, you will learn so much from doing it yourself. theres also some programs i believe that can slow down fast parts of songs. If you need help just send me a pm or email. You wont regret spending the time to do it.

Yea, Its something ive been meaning to work on more, Like i said its a little of an extreme but ill try my best id be curouis if you could try and learn the chorus progression to one of my bands songs and see how close you are!

A little harsh but I think it was meant to be funny and sarcastic. I kind of agree though. Still, I respect Hayden feeling that he's done alot of work. I've tabbed a shit-load of stuff in my life. At 43 with 3 kids, I can go 2-3 days without being able to even take the guitar out of the case so I just can't give it that kind of time. I'll have to wait for the book I guess.

That said, there is a huge amount of tabs of GG's stuff on his site. I believe there are at least 2 dedicated threads.

Rock on ladies.

You can buy a transcription of the live version of "Fives" that is dead on accurate from bluesjamtracks.com for a few bucks. They also have transcriptions that are perfectly accurate of Guthrie jamming a bunch of blues stuff that can give you a lot of insight into his lead playing style if you learn them. You get the transcription, video of Guthrie playing it live and audio of the track as well as audio without the guitar fo practicing/recording yourself. Also, if you check out the Guthrie Govan forum (LINK) and search around there are a bunch of transcriptions of "Erotics Cakes" stuff - some are very accurate, some not so much - no full songs or solos, but things like the intro the "Waves" are there.

Regardless of this, I still recommend transcribing some of the stuff yourself. It is good for your ears and a great way to get to know a player... Amazing Slowdowner is your friend! It makes things much easier than when I was dropping a needle on a record over and over again when I was a kid!

Wow, just Wow.

i really see no reason to not share it. I'd be proud to share it if it was guthrie approved. and since there are no plans for a book, i can't see why guthrie'd mind.

whatever though, he tabbed it, he can do what he wants.

ultimately though, I think the "you should learn it yourself" attitude is kinda lame. yeah, guitarists these days have a lot of choices. that's why some of you guys go through gear so fast. why not just get a practice amp and a strat copy like lots of the greats probably had when they were learning? like a guy said earlier, sometimes he can't even play for a few days. maybe he just wants to learn some guthrie without spending hours trying to learn it by ear. I think guitar is about having fun, not about discipline. that's why skill doesn't necessarily equal good music

just my opinion

Here's the deal...transcribing is huge part of the learning process, without it your mosdef missing a huge chunk in the ability department. Now whether any one goes with short cuts is their choice. But in the end it's all excuses for not wanting to put in the work required to become a musician. But it is their choice.

As for sharing transcriptions or any kinda musical knowledge...I'm not fan of withholding info. It's not magic tricks. But that too is a choice.
No fan of the "i have it but won't share it" in that. Yeah, a copyrighted transcription IMO shouldn't be shared, but when I came up we all got together to compare the stuff we copped off CDs. Given that is why there is a broader stylistic difference since we also past on the stuff we learned wrong, an then the next guy got the wrong part even wronger and it becamde their "thing".

It's basically this.

Of course you should transcribe your own solos, it's an important tool for both your ear and finding out what makes your favourite players tick (I'm doing a Miles solo right now that is just killing me, and Amazing Slow Downer IS my friend).

Yeah, of course it's his work and he has the right to pass it out or not. But the sole purpose of his post in the thread was "Now, I've got it, but I'm not giving it to you. Also, Guthrie and I are soooooo tight."

I don't see the harm in sharing something if it helps somebody else at no cost to yourself. Not like it's the keys to the kingdom.
