Hi all,

Just curious what others are using for cabinets/speakers with their OD100SE+s? I am finding my 2x12 Avatar Contemporary/V30s to be a bit loose on the low end. I also have a Bogner 4x12 cab with V30s that is a bit blah with the OD100 (works great for the 101b though).

Thanks!

The head is voiced for V30's
Have you got the Whomp II installed?
Are you using actives or passives?

Have you tried the front CH 2 Presence at 9 or 10 with the rear feedback control at Zero?

Mark

Hi,

Yup, Whomp II and I have tried with active and passives. Actives are a bit better. I will try the other recommendations you listed as well. I am wondering if it is the cabinet.

Thanks!

Thought John recommended 25 watt greenbacks??

This from the Suhr website:

The CAA 4x12 has great projection with a focused punch and strong tight lows. All cabinets are not created equal! We recommend the Celestion G12M-25 Greenback speakers for those seeking a classic sound with a lot of warmth and singing highs. The Celestion G12H30 Anniversary speakers are recommended for a tighter response and midrange focus. For modern high-gain applications and all-around versatility, it's hard to beat the Celestion V30's. As of now, we only offer the CAA cabs unloaded so the player can install the speaker of his/her choice.

I thought I remember John telling me SE+ was voiced around V30's...but I'm wrong a lot :)

Mark - I think you're right ! And I know that John's preference ( in a 4 x 12 box ) is V-30's for the SE+ .... That changes if you're only using a 2 x 12" ( Emi Govs - I think ? ) ....

I have a Suhr cab with Govenors and is was amazing. I love the cleans with them speakers aswell. I now have a P$%^ C&$% OS 2x12 with V30s and it sounds good, but when I pu the Govenors in there it was totally better. The V30s are good, but sound very stiff and not as good on the cleans as the Govenors. To me the Govenor sound better dirty and clean then the V30s. Oh, my Suhr cab is a CAA 2x12. I use both cabs and they sound great!

I have been playing around a bit and it seems that in order to control the low end I have to have the Whomp II down and the feedback all the way down. I am going to try a couple of other cabinets. First a Splawn 2x12 with their Emi Big Blocks. We will see how that goes.

Thanks for all of the info.

If the SEplus with whomp II is too thick and upper mid scooped for you and you want some more marshally bark the PT100 conversion would work better.
You could also change the treble cap in the EQ section and see how that works for you

I am still fine tuning but have made it work with the Whomp II all the way down and feedback all the way down. I also put an eq in the loop and found that setting the sliders lower for 200 and 400 seems to help a bit as well. I left everything else neutral. Overall I like the way the amp is voiced and I do like the bottom end. I am not sure I would change it.

Also, out of curiosity what is involved in the PT100 conversion?

Thanks!

John , can I buy a Whomp II kit? Mark Day mentioned he did it himself with some help from Chris.

Diamond Bar California?
Just come on down !
I dont recommend self install.

Initially tried my Marshall 4x10 which sounds really good with my Mod50 (VX, SL2, EG3/4 & EG5 modules) but was definitely not the way to go with the SE+. Pulled my old Crate Blue Voodoo 1x12 with a V30 out which sounded much better with the OD100. I also used a Hot Plate for safety sake, it was enough to go from eh on the amp to really enjoying it and playing for a couple of hours.

I running my SE+ thru a Marshall 1960 w/ V30's and it sounds really nice so far.

Just a quick update... I played my OD100SE+ through a Mesa Recto 2x12 and it seems that there is still lots of bottom end but it definitely seems tighter.

Thanks for all of the input.

I had a chance to sit down at a mini ampfest last weekend and play an se+ through a bogner os2x12 with et65's and I thought they were a great match for this amp. I think it's just about pushed me to the edge to order either the se+ or pt100. I mostly play classic rock to modern rock covers to I'm thinking maybe the pt100.
