I recently bought a Cameron Aldrich JCM 800...Lots of interesting switches...One in particular I need some help with...First, this is a 50 watt with 6550's currently...There is what I think is a bias switch...It is a three position switch with the options...6550, EL34, and Cold 6550/Hot EL34...I am thinking this switch changes the bias range...Can anybody out there confirm? BTW, this amp is amazing and the tonal options are crazy!!!!

Thanks,
Mark

I think this is the Aldrich I used to own. Yes, that switch changes the bias resistors so you can choose the range to best fit the tube type you're running. The amp probably has the same 6550's it had when I sold it. You should check always the bias but the 6550 position should be correct for that tube.

If you got this head from mooncobra then it was a Cameron that a buddy of mine owned. He bought it from Josh Sage best I remember. I think it got to Josh by way of Rufus as he just posted. KILLER AMP! You decide to sell it let me know.

Thanks for the info Hollywood and Rufus....The amp has some mojo...There was much hype from the seller on this amp...I was cautiously optimistic when I bought it...I am not disappointed...It was tonally rich as described by mooncobra...The tone switches on the back are killer...Each is a three way switch and the variety of tones achievable is pretty amazing...The bass boost is pretty cool...Loop is nice...Interesting that it has a on/off toggle for the loop hiding behind the pre tubes...
I am not a hypester....I am a just a guitar player who has had the good fortune to deal with a lot of great folks and own a lot of great amps...I think I will keep this one...

Thanks again for the info on the amp...And thanks to mooncobra for selling me a killer amp...

On a side note, I have found that this amp seems to sound best with my my Heritage G12M cabs, my Greenback cabs, and my G12H30 cabs...

I forgot to mention...It currently has Tung Sol 6550's...Pre tubes are an assortment of 12AX7's...When I get back from vacation, I'll be hooking up the Weber bias probe and checking the bias...Thinking about buying a pair of Black Sable =C= 6550's...Are these amps finicky about pre tubes?

Mark

Thanks Psychodave...I might get with you at some point as I have not biased a Marshall before...I have biased all of my other amps...I am sure the bias adjustment is obvious on the board, but if you could kind of point me in the right direction I would appreciate it...Also, any ideas on preamp tubes would be appreciated....

Thanks,
Mark

I'll get some pics up tomorrow....It is the most killer amp I've ever had...It appears to have a lot more than just the standard Aldrich mod....Two pulls on the front, so it looks totally stock lookin at the front panel....Lots of switches and shtuff on the back...Currently has a pair of Tung Sol 6550's and a variety of pre tubes....It sounds amazing, so I am reluctant to change anything....Biased at about 100 mA on the pair, so I figure it is really somewhere around 70-80 watts....
