Anyone ever try it?

How's it sound?

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Orange 2x12 to get me a 1x12 cab and a Blackstar HT-5 for my dorm, but I'm also gonna bring my Cameron.

It's safe to assume that a 1x12 cab is definitely loud enough if I ever want to gig, and will sound alright at low volumes?

As for speakers, I'm looking to get G12H30 or a Greenback...

i have a 50 watt cameron jcm800 that i play through a 1x12 open back cab with a vintage 30. i also sometimes use a 50 watt cameron traynor yba3 through it. they both sound as loud through a 1x12 as through a 2x12 or 4x12. the tone changes from cab to cab, the feel is different, but i have never had an issue with volume in a band setting. i also always use a 50 watt cameron sovtek midget mig50 through a sovtek 1x12 with a vintage 30 in it and that thing absolutely competes with any 100 watt 4x12 half stack, it sounds HUGE. and when i am using these at low volumes, i think they sound great. i think 1x12 cabs are amazing and work great, but the overall feel may be different.

awesome, thanks thanks

I've also been told that I need speakers that can handle the wattage... my JMP is 100 watts, and I was really looking to get the G12H30 or Greenbacks, but those are very low wattage speakers

I'm a total n00b at the wattage handling, so could anyone explain to me how it works?

From what I gather, I don't know if a 1x12 cab with a low wattage speaker could handle the 100W JMP

If all you are using it for is low volumes, I think you're fine... Seems to me that any 50-100 amp could crush a single greenback pretty easily if turned up even a decent amount.

so am I gonna need a high wattage speaker if I want to play my JMP 2203 through it at high volumes?

High volumes being very relative of course, I don't think I'll ever have a chance to dime the JMP

In that case, I might go for a higher wattage speaker then... VERY possible a WGS ET65, WGS HP Reaper (50 Watts), Celestion CL80, or WGS British Lead

My favorite 1x12 cab FWIW has always been the Boogie 3/4 back wide body cabs.....thump pretty good

You will be fine with the g12h30. I crank my camerons through my 4x12 with them. They can take loud volumes no problem. A 1x12 should be fine. The speaker will tell you when you are pushing it too hard.

but how will a G12H30 handle a 100W in a 1x12 cab at high volumes? High being relative of course... not like diming the thing. Would it handle 12:00 volume?

looks like a great speaker, looks exactly like what I'm looking for, except when I saw the price... oof felt like a kick in the chest. A bit out of my price range :aww:

what's your address? I'd be happy to let you mod it!

I totally did not think about pulling two powertubes... It just went way over my head, but I will definitely do that

To be sure, I pull the two outer powertubes out, correct?

Then I'm going to have to use half the ohmage on the amp than from the cab?

so if I'm using a 1x12 cab, with an 8 ohm speaker, I use the 4 ohm input on the back of the amp?

Correct.....you can pull the 2 outer or 2 inner tubes but...pulling the 2 outer tubes just looks better....and over on TGP they say it sounds better.... :D
