Morning Everyone,
Just had a quick question,.... as I was looking to experiment a little. Find a different tone and flavor with Channel 1.
Can I swap in some 6550's in place of the 6l6's that are currently in the Channel 1 section???
And if so, has anyone tried this,.. what was your experience and what brand did you use??
Thanks for the chime- ins for anyone who comments.

I thought mine had 6550's in there when it came from the factory. You sure there aren't 6550's in there now?

No,
Mine came with a set of Sovtek 5881's..... Decent sounding but had no " shimmer " or flavor to them.. Have since switched those out for a set of Groove Tube 6l6 GE 's.... and while they are a deffinite improvement over the Sovtek's... Wanting to see the change of 6550 would sound if it can be done. Again , let me state , that I'm wanting to do this in Channel 1.... Srill love the "growl of EL 34's in Channel 2.
So..... the ques. is still out there....

Yep, sure can. I actually prefer the KT88's, but 6550's are cool too. You have to remove the little tube retainers, but you can use them. Huge sound for sure. Tons of headroom too. Little less "sparkly" and more rounded tone. I love the KT88's on the crunch channel.

Hey, I have a fabulous set of SED 6550's from Valve Queen that I'd sell you if you are interested. Less than 1 hour on them. Let me know.

Some great info Buckeye,... Appreciate the offer , and will keep you in mind.... was looking to do something after the holidays, purchase wise. LOL!
And an added prop to the ValveQueen on here also.... She's a joy to talk to and great service.
KT 88's were another avenue I was going to explore on Channel 1 also..... but, from what I'm hearing... the 6550 's might get that good ACDC
crunch and grind while retaining a great headroom clean un-boosted.

I think you could do very well with that tone with the 6550's. I also have a pair of Sovtek KT88's that I'd be willing to part with too!! Ha Ha!

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

They are LOUD too, but very cool.

Definitly would like to keep in touch with you , Buckeye , just to have a fellow Renegade owner to hash out settings and experiments with.
I'll post some rig pics up here soon. I mess with a lot of pre-amp tube changes too,... just to hear the different tones/ reliability.....
My current closed back 212 cab is running a Celstion V30 / Celestion 12H GT 75 mix right now.... a little " spikey " on the top end, but a nice open, aggressive sound for 80's metal.

Maybe swap that 75 for an H30?? That is a great mix.

Yeah man, shoot me a pm too if you want. I love talking gear and am a tube swapper myself.

Yeah, a friend of mine I jam with regularly has an H30 he told me that he would let me try..... He's gone the route of 2 V30's in his Blackstar that he is happy with.
I will be chatting with you soon, my man.....
Here's to happy and safe Holidy's to Ya.
