Can I put a Fuzz Pedal into a Channel Insert on my VH4?

Hi, I tried searching but couldn't really find the answer to this. My VH4 sounds great and I am using the the MIDI capability and the numerous effects loops more for Rack Gear as well as Stomp Boxes. I only use my Z-Vex Fuzz Factory on Channel 2, can I loop it into the Channel Insert and then control it by MIDI?? I know the general rule of thumb is Modulation and Delay in the Effects Loop (which I am also doing) and Distortions etc goes in the front of the Amp, Is this for tone reasons or would I damage or overload the amp if I did this?

Any help would be appreciated :)

I´m interested in this, too. I`ve got the Big Muff I would like in the insert and perhaps a booster for a "second channel volume". But I´m not sure if this is good for the amp

Not sure on damaging anything as you are adding your fuzz after the preamp stage, and before the poweramp stage: If I read your post correctly? If not, please ignore the rest of my post!

Master volume should be able to control this somewhat, that is you may want to gradually increase your power amp stage as your fuzz level/gain will be injected into the power amp directly, it will likely saturate at lower master volumes.

My set-up is very different as I'm using FRFR PAS system (Bose L1), I usually treat my signal chain prior to the mixer as the full direct to FOH signal (e.g. like a DI or Miked Cab) - so I have:

Instrument --> initial effects (Compressor, boosts,..) --> preamps/amp models / sims --> post amp effects (modulation, delay, reverb,...) ---> mixer ---> "FOH" / PA effects (mostly final EQ, Reverb, and perhaps light compression).

FWIW, I've not tried adding boost, distortion, fuzz, etc., after the preamp, before the amp, or after. Could be interesting. :D

Yes, but I feel that if you do not have a good volume control on the effect unit it will cause a major jump in the channel volume.

Thanks for youre help, I'll make sure the volume is turned down on the pedal before I switch it then slowly turn it up :)

Channel insert is putting the stompbox before preamp section. It is the same, like you have it on the floor in front of the amp..between the guitar and the amp input. Only in this case, you can bypass it by midi command by the head...
I hope, I am right ;)

IMO, it works more like a series loop further down the preamp chain. The tone of the effect is cleaner but much louder than putting it in front.

It definitely won't damage anything. Run it both ways and see which you like best. At the insert it is a line level which will place the pedal after the amps preamped, processed tone and takes out one A/D/A conversion step. On distortion effects, this really makes no difference. If you are running other pedals in front of the amp, it may affect the way they sound in the overall chain. Generally, you want to distort the modulation effects, not modulate the distortion. But, no hard and fast rules here.

It works fine, slight difference in tone but not too much to worry about, I had to increase the channel volume on channel 2 but it works great with the MIDI, Thanks again :)
