Can I survive with a 2x12?

I've always used 4x12s, you just can't beat em.. but .. for home, I'm really thinking of sizing down. I find that when I do play out, there pretty much is always a 4x12 waiting for me whether it's at a practice space or if its a gig there's a backline. Plus the 2x12 is just so much easier to transport.

I'm really thinking of getting one of these vertical cabs. It comes with v30s, and I get the angled top speaker. I'm mostly playing my ISP Theta pedal nowadays with the Stealth poweramp, and it really cuts down on my footprint. I have a Kemper too and it sits nicely on top of it ;)

I rented one for a few weeks just to try it out, and it sounded great, nice and loud, but... you guessed it, still really missed that depth that the 4x12 gives you. I'm not sure if two of these 2x12s in stereo would give the same depth. My 4x12 is a standard Marshall 1960a.

Any of you downsize to a 2x12 and regret it later?

I've been using a 2x12 for about 6 years now. I haven't missed mine onstage. Plus, it's lot easier to move and set up on tight stages.

Yup! I have 2 Splawn 2x12's and have no desire to go back to a 4x12 cab.

A horizontal 2x12 will give you more low-end than a vertical 2x12 also.

i was running a vh4 and a jvm through a gflex 2x12 for over a year. it was not optimal, but it was fine. 4x12's are more of a mental thing for me anyway.

I used a Marshall 1936 2x12 with my DSL 50 for 5 years and always sounded great

Currently am using (2) Soldano 2x12's with my SLO and also sounds great

I went the other way....used 1x12s and 2x12s for years then one day plugged into a 4x12 and heard a resonance and bottom end that I never knew I was missing. 4x12 is my preferred way to roll, I only use a 2x12 when I have to pack a bunch of camping gear as well as music gear

Go with a pair of Mesa Thiele cabs with the EVM speakers. They so much bottom end it's crazy. Using a pair of them really makes it sound like a huge wall of sound.

I'm gigging my Bogner OS 2 X 12 this Friday. Been A/B'ing it with my Marshall 4 X 12 and I am liking some of the sounds better on the 2 X 12. Still doesn't have the depth or detail of the 4 X 12, but it's pretty close. Close enough to leave the Marshall at home this week.

Plus the Bogner, a 100 watt Marshall head, PT Jr. pedalboard and gig bag all fit nicely in my trunk. Guitars in the back seat and good to go!

I should add that mine is the oversize Mesa 2x12. I wanted as much boom as I could get with it, coming from a 4x12.

+1 for the Bogner OS212 closed back. Not that much smaller than your usual 412, but lighter so easier to hump around.

Best sounding 212 I've had the pleasure of owning and playing through, IMHO.

Used two of them for a while when I ran with a Triaxis/2:90 rig. Sounded great and was compact but eventually the sound and feel of a 412 won me over

Right, maybe 3 inches smaller than a 4 X 12, but I can carry it with one hand up a flight of stairs if I had to. No way to do that with the Marshall.

I have the Jet City vert 2x12 with V30s

I like how small of a footprint it has on stage, lightweight - but I do believe because of its size it does lack some bass response. I have a Jet City traditional 2x12 with V30s and lows are more pronounced with that one that the vert (mirroring what LP Freak said).

The only 2x12 I've found that gives me the depth of sound I'm used to getting from a 4x12 is the Port City Wave. Still not the same but it's way easier to lug around.

Are you using the OS Port City or std 2x12? Just curious.
I've been eyeing these again. I tried a 1x12 std size Port City a while back. Wasn't impressed. But it seems that the OS stuff they have may be the way to go.

I'm using the standard, had an OS as well but I thought it was a bit too boomy on the bottom end. I loaded both with Lynchbacks though - people seem to like the OS better with V30's.

Moved from using a 4x12 at gig's to mostly a 2x12, either a V30 loaded Marshall 1936 or a V30 loaded Mesa Recto horizontal 2x12 and I don't find that much difference, bit of bass response is lost for sure but that is why I've got a bass player :)

Did find I didn't like the vertical 2x12 IMHO opinion they sounded weaker, only thing I could think was it was throwing that top speaker out over the crowd on the angled cab, did sound good out front but not great on stage.

My back thanks me every gig!
