Yep, the new 20th shiva I find more chewy than the 20th XTC when I played em both.
The new Shiva reminds me a bit of the old XTC blue channel.
Keep in mind if it is too chewy and unforgiving, good luck using it in a band mix.
I know Stu at fat sound guitars and he said HR always had trouble in the band mix with his 101b
But the 20th series solved this, and like I said I can get as thick and chewy as I would want with my 20th Shiva with EL34s
I also have to disagree in that I can get a very fat, liquid and woody tone out of the right Mesa Biigie that us as satisfying as a Bogner. Love both!
I can get a Mark V or a 20th Shiva to sound like that clip.
Well, the 20th X has a wider midrange, whereas the Shiva has a more focused midrange with a narrower 'Q'. Different beasts, but similar DNA. If you really dig the XTC lead tone, then the red channel is where it's at. The Goldfinger will be closest to a Marshall of the 3.
I don't know but when I play my 20th Shiva with EL34s....I can easily hear those tones in this clip. Maybe my ears are not as good as others though. All and all, I find the Shiva more fun to play lead on...same with my PWE EH...which a lot of people compare to the XTC Blue channel. I love em both. The XTC to me feels more modern under the fingers, for me the Shiva is really fun to solo on and that is one of the requirements for me and an amp. In all fairness I don;t have enough time on the 20th XTC......but I have time on older 101bs.
