Can you push power tubes this way?

I read someone does this but was thinking I still don't think it works correctly right?
He said to push power tubes:
Take a cord and run it from effects send back into effects return, then adjust volume low on the master volume of the loop making sure the loop is set to "series"...parallel does not sound as good, at least with my particular set-up. Then crank the volume on the front of your amp.

The best way to push power tubes is definitely to cut the signal level before it ever gets to them.

I think at most you will push the phase inverter harder but it is not going to push the power tubes any more.

For an amp to really be pushed the preamp has to push the power amp.

the answer is no.

you cant.

heres why.

effects loops are true bypass from send and return, both, when "off"

when introducing the effects loop, either by footswitch running two 12V relays (one for send.. one for return) or even additional adjustment potentiometers like what boutique amps usually have, they are normally before the PI tube, not after. so esentially all your doing is introducing more circuitry. and then limiting its input, cutting the headroom wide open on the master volume.

all that is doing is introducing an instrument cable into the amplifiers circuitry, which is grounded through the effects loop. but could possably pick up noise. and since he is still limiting the current using the loop's potentiometer, was turn the master volume of the amplifier into the effects loop and not each specific channel's master volumes., its still going to limit the current and voltages to the power section.

effects return used by itself is a direct bypass to the PI tube and power amp. i've plugged my guitar straight into the effects return for troubleshooting. its wide open though, no volume control except for the guitar's pot. but a good way to troubleshoot amps

push the power tubes=crank the amp.
no other way.
if you want lower vol levels, attenuator :m4:
from that lot, take your pick, lots of differing opinions on that one
