I've been reading the old EG3/4 cap mod threads and can see that if you go from the stock 1000pf/500V to a lower value, you can add brightness or remove darkness. What if I wanted to make a module darker? I don't see caps at values higher than 1000pf so could I double up 2 caps and add their values? IOW, can I use 2 680pf caps for an effective value of 1360pf?

Thanks.

Dave

Well, if you want to use two capacitors like that, you need to connect them in parallell. I'm pretty sure you can find capacitors with a higher value than 1000 pF though. After all, that's only 1 nanofarad!

If you look at the upright board, inbetween the resistor on top, and the big 1000pf cap underneath, theres actually an additional pair of holes in line...

I wonder if another cap can be put in there?

yep,

1000 pF is only .001uF. (microfarads)

You can find plenty of bigger caps. I've thought about doing this myself.  The Darkness is spreading! CHARLIE MURPHY! (punch). "Unnity!!"

I was thinking of posting a poll:

dark amp, treble up

or

bright amp, treble down

I vote for #2. :)

So parallel would be connecting the "left" leg of each together and then the "right" leg of each together right? Series would be attaching one leg of each together leaving the other leg on each, free. Then the free legs would be connected?

That's right :) But I'd bet you can find a capacitor the value you need though :)

I know you're right but I already ordered lesser values and figured I'd try this way.

Thanks for the info.

Cool! Keep us updated on how it works out! :)

Got my caps yesterday. I traded my Erect for an EG3/4 with a forum member here. The mods are going and coming from the US to Austria. When I get the EG3/4 I may do the mod then.
