does any body have any experience with carvin british series speakers? mine seem to fluctuate radically with /humidity/cold/heat or whatever. i dont know if its just me or what.

I used to own 2 Carvin V212's (vertical 2X12 cabs) loaded with those. They were my 1st cabs. I'll tell you what, when I got a Mesa cab for the first time, I could not believe what kind of night and day difference it made along with Celestion speakers. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about temp/humid changes and change the speakers/cab instead. Your ears will thank you. Mind you I used them for years and I THOUGHT they sounded great until I really DID have great cabs to compare. It's 5 years since I got rid of the Carvins (like some of their tube amps, just not they're cabs/house brand speakers) and I am never looking back. Here's a tip for inexpensive good tone: Marshall MF280 cabs ($400 or so).

no shit, huh? maybe its because the cabs im coming from. two fender roc-pro 4x12s. they looked okay but sounded like an electric ass. ill take your advice and start lookin around. thank you for your reply.

hell i bought some br12s in 93, they still sound fine. i just need a decent 2x12 cab too use them. i have them in a guttted peavey renown.

Depends which British series they are. Carvin had several different builders build their speakers throughout the years. I have a '97 or 98 412 with the 100 watt british series speakers. They sound really smooth and powerful, though a bit dark compared to many celestions. I have to make up for it by dialing my tones a little brighter, especially when playing in my band.
I think mine were made by Eminence. (BR12s, I think? )

Anyway, mine aren't affected at all by changes in temp, humidity, etc and that's why I use that cab for most of my shows. It's been around and I don't care if it gets a little beat up, and I know what to expect from it every night.

Here's how they compare to my V30's

V30:

Carvin speakers: Note-a little creamier and darker/less crispy and different focus in mids

I've had them in 2 different cabs and I can honestly say that they are the worst speakers I've ever heard. VERY harsh

I had a pair of earlier ones. The 100 watts. They were huge sounding. Had them in a Fender Pro 185 and they matched up real well with the power that amp put out. Not as bassy as the GT12 carvins I am using now. I would use them again if I had them. Lots of top end punch and articulate mids. That amp and those speakers(combo amp) was the only time I had a rig when used in a pratice space I was asked to turn it down and only had the volume on 1. hahaha True story!

I had a 4x12 I purchased in 90-91 and I thought they were good. I was using them witha Racktifier. I never like my Boogie. It just sounded like shit. I then bought a OD100 in 2006 and it did not sound the same as the one at Tone Merchants. I later bought a Custom Audio 2x12 with Eminence Govenors and the OD came to life. It was a drastic change. I regret not holding onto the Boogie. I never really knew how much speakers made a difference.

hey glassjaw, thanks a bunch, man. definely comparing the two makes sense. i can hear the tone that my amp has in the video. i think i like the dark, greg ginn type[my bandmates tell me im insane] thanks for yer time.
