I'm looking to pick up an inexpensive 4x12 cabinet. I've seen a couple listed in various emps. but the Carvin factory is real close by. Just wondering if anybody has had any experiences with the Legacy 4x12 cabinets. Pros, cons, etc....Thanks. I play mostly rock/hard rock....and venture poorly into prog/fusion.

I had one and thought it sounded fine and there was nothing wrong with it ... until I got a Bogner 4x12. It had to go after that. The Legacy cab sounded like it was made of cardboard in comparsion. Much more brittle sounding and less depth.
Check out the Avatar cabs also, they are a good deal.

I like them. I use mine with a JCM800 and an Egnater JCM800 type amp. I also have a Marshall 1960 loaded with vintage 30's. The Legacy has more low mids than the Marshall and a smoother top end. However, with all the low mids, I guess you could say it is "cardbordy" depending on the amp you have. Heck, if you're close to Carvin, they have a 10 day trial - it's definitely worth a shot!

I'd be getting a "bro" deal from a buddy with employee connections. Any trial period would be null and void with this situation wihtout threatening any "connections."

Coulnd`t you try one out @ the shop/factory, just to get an idea?

I have. But it was through unfamiliar guitars and amps for a short period of time. I'm looking for opinions from people that have owned/gigged/recorded the cabinet past a honeymoon period.

I'm dubious about this comparison without having tried the Bogner speakers in the Carvin Cab. I have several cabs and move speakers often and I know the cab make s a difference, but the specific speakers do also.

The legacy cab is "front loaded" with V30's and it's not a very deep cabinet...I don't like either of those features.
I agree that the Avatar vintage cab would be a better choice for not much cost as well.

I'm not schooled on the difference between front or rear loaded cabs. How would that affect tone.

I like greenbacks...I've had them in front loaded cabs and rear loaded cabs and there's a high frequency that's prominent in a green back, a bit of a high sizzle sound. When front loaded it's more prevalent, when rear loaded, being behind the front baffle and the sound coming from the edge of the speaker isn't aloud to disperse outwards instantly the same, it seems to block some of the sizzle and rounds out the overall tone, the overall cab just sounds smoother to me when rear mounted..

FWIW, Both cabinets had v-30's and if anything the Carvin speakers were broken in and th Bogner was new at the time. To me its about as objective a comparison as I could get without actually swapping the speakers.
I think another poster on this thread mentioned that the Carvin is front load and that was probably also a factor.
