I've been looking to buy a new guitar and I've been dying to custom order a carvin, but man so many models, so many options, makes me want to buy 3 of them to get everything I want haha. Does anyone here have experience with purchasing a brand new custom made one, what to get , what not to get, which models etc.

Also how well do these play? I haven't been able to try any out but I've heard good thigns about them.

Thanks!

I just bought one off Ebay the other day, hopefully it'll arrive next week.

Yea I saw your post, tell me how it goes with that one, yours is a bolt on model right?

Their necks are thin, sort of Wizard II thin, so some people say they need adjusting. I found they needed no more than any other neck.

If you like a neck through the Cali carve tops are sweet. The neck pockets are very comfy to reach upper frets.

Personally I like the single coils, AP11, but they route to fit, so you can't swap in just any other single if you want to change. You can ask them to route single coil pockets like traditional tri-oval routes and they should be able to accomodate.

I've always swapped out the humbuckers. Carvin does shield everything really well, and their wiring is super clean.

All in all, great guitars, totally worth the new prices.

Yeah, Bolt-T with a Wilkinson. That's one of the main reasons I bought it. Really interested in the Wilkinson.

Whats the difference with the Wilkinson bridges? I never tried any before, I would probably order a tune-o-matic string through though If i bought one, I rarely use the whammy.

You don't count since you have an ebay page ready sell it already. :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

I bought a DC127 from them some years back. The problem is, the thing would fret out when doing bends up around the 12th-16th. I sent it to them 3 times and they couldn't reproduce it so I had to drive 1.5 hours to drive to San Diego and show them. When I demonstrated it fretting the guy said something like "oh, I'm mostly a jazz player so I don't do bends like that." Nice guy, but geez... if I were out of state I would have just returned it.

In the end, they knocked $50 off the price and built me a new guitar, which tubesteakfortone's brother in law now owns.

I think 95% of them play well and 55% sound good. Better than Fender odds.

I have a DC747C coming next week. I'll tell you when it gets here.

I just got a Carvin 727 a couple weeks ago new from a store, the only option it didn't ahve that I wanted was abalone block inlays, but meh, I got it cheap. It plays like better, and it sounds amazing. It has active/passive electronics, but I can't find any use for passive whatsoever, maybe if you're a blues/jazz only player, but in passive mode the pups have way too much bass/treble that can't be dialed out, even on the amp. Works well for clean, but active mode sounds fine for clean too, then again I am not picky when it comes to clean sounds at all, but they do clean up nice with just the volume knob. Upper fret access is the best I've played, and neck is nice and thin.

I bought a DC727C last December and it is an exceptional guitar.
I've changed out the pickups to BareKnuckles (NailBomb/ColdSweat).
It's beautiful to look at and it is hands down the best playing 7 I've yet to
play. And now with the BK's in there it sounds great too (these are bright guitars ).
It actually has become my favorite guitar (over my Jaskson SL2H and my 2 GMW's)
which says a lot to me.

I have enjoyed my DC127c for the last two years. Excellent guitar. probably the best playing guitar I own.

Its the paint job that gets me, that thing looks freaken amazing! Maybe I will order one by the end of this year, however I cannot find any details at all regarding the differences between the models, dc 127 vs dc 200 vs dc 400.. anyone know what the differences are?

Well, here's how the models break down

CT6- PRS style. Mahogany body and (set) neck with either a maple or mahogany top

Bolt- Strat style, whatever pickup config and woods you want

C66- Same as above, but more suhr like

TC/SC- Tele/LP shaped body, but neck through with whatev p/u's and wood you want

DC series- Not quite like anything. Superstratish shape, but not quite a jackson or ibanez. The upper fret access is amazing on these, as there's barely any transition between the neck and body. Neck is thin, but not Ibanez thin. These have all options available

DC127 = 2 humbucker w/passive electronics
DC200 = 2 humbucker w/active electronics
DC400 = 2 humbucker w/active electronics and maple topped body

Kmanick, that guitar is HOT! What did you think of the original pickups?

There's really no point in buying a 400 or 200, as you could just buy a 127 and upgrade with active electronics and a maple top for less money
