Since I like the idea of the guitar sub forum, I figured I’d help get this party started. I may only be a ‘Journeyman NOOB', but I am every bit the longtime Gear Whore as some around these parts. I’m generally quiet on forums because I tend to say something stupid and feel badly about it for months. My mother was right, silence is a virtue.

On to the guitar topic, if you prefer vintage American craftsmanship, this thread isn’t for you. I’m a child of the 80s, I’m 38, I love Ibanez RGs and I love hot-rod tones. So, without further adieu… on to the guitars.

Guitars in the pics:
Ibanez JEMFP
Ibanez JEMFP2
Ibanez J Custom RRG6 PK (1 of 6)
Ibanez J Custom RRG6 LY (1 of 6)

I am not 100% sold on the guitars as a whole, but I think we can all agree that the Vine is the best looking fretboard ever made.

Amen.

I think it's hilarious that the vine on the J-Customs appears nicer than the vine on the JEMs.

It doesn't appear nicer, it actually is, by a lot. The J Customs are actually a better all around guitar, but if it's good enough for Steve Vai - I'll allow it in my home.

dude I love all your guitars here!!!

how does the old floral sound vs the new floral?!?!

Thank you. I know they're not everyone's thing, but I think they're cool.

The old floral is my favorite of the bunch, maybe sentimental reason and I love PAF Pros for some reason. It's an old one from '90 with the pups still mounted in the pickguard. The new one is really nice, purchased and setup by Rich @ Ibanez Rules. The new one was built old school, but with a five piece neck. It's equipped with an original Edge tremolo and the metal plate neck joint, not the AANJ. All in all, surprisingly similar. Better neck feel on the original, better neck quality on the new one.

Your post is timely. I have been in a heated effort to get a j custom vine. Primarily an RG8420ZD because I like the HH set up and the edge zero. I am very jealous of your collections of vineys :inlove: .

I am slightly worried that the vine inlay will throw me off while playing live/low light conditions by temporarily losing my place on the fretboard. Has this happended to you or are the frets pretty well marked?

The HH setup is great. One of my main guitars is an RGT, I love it.

They're marked and I've actually never noticed it being a problem. I hope the next time I play one that the power of suggestion doesn't make me lose my place on the fretboard.

WOW...killer collection. The pink and yellow J Customs are sick! (especially the pink)

Here's another "vine" for your viewing pleasure...it also happens to be the best sounding "vintage" Jem that I've ever come across. Odd that it has the same woods and electronics (PAF Pros) as the LNG but sounds so much thicker...and that was before adding a brass block.

Love the BFP! It's the missing guitar in my floral collection. I know what your saying about your BFP, I love my original FP. I know the new 5 pc necks are better, but the feeling of that one piece neck is just amazing. Never played an original 777, so I can't compare it to any of those.

Thanks for the kind words. The J Customs really are sick. So much skilled workmanship was seemingly put into them. I guess being a 6 piece run for each, they put a little more time into them.

all the guitars in this thread are sweet, and the pink one=WIN!

Yup.....can't say I can argue with the choices of guitar here.....

I have a few myself.

I'll have to post up the pics as well.

A beautiful collection Drewiv and Rupe.

Nicely done!
Until folks try a J Custom, they really don't know of how amazing a guitar it is. :)

I certainly think they are underrated. I can't say there aren't better guitars, but these guitars will hold their own against some of the best. The craftsmanship is truly amazing.
