How will the CCV compare to my CLX...the sound clips sounds very very close. Has anyone A/b these two amps?

This should be a great thread! I had a CLX, a 50/CL and an Ultra Lead a while back and they did have some gain/grit character that I hear in the CCV amp.... And when I cranked a Deliverance at a NAMM show when they first came out, it was in the ballpark, but I think the CCV has a lot more tweak factor and more tonal coverage.

The UL had KT88s and was stiff as a board; I think the CLX would be a better amp to compare.

I would like to try one out someday! :D

Yes, I think the el34's give it a little more sag and mid range. It has marshall characteristics along with that snarl factor that I hear in the CCV. there arent very many clips of the CLX out there showcasing just a straight up hard rock/ old school metal tone....its dominated by nu metal type noodling and detuned stuff I'm not really into. At any rate, I plan to make some youtube clips of the CLX in the next few weeks.

Yeah! Do that! I don't care for the detuned/7 string clips that much either - some good playing and what not, but I never dialed in tones like that unless I was just in a scooped out mood once in a while. I would say that I miss the CLX over the UL.... that UL was tough to dial in a straight up hard rock/old school metal tone for me. I think my speaker choice may have affected things a little. I think I was using V30s or Celestion Neos (ugh)... The amps do sound good thru the matching VHT (Fryette now) cabs and spkrs...

I'd love to hear a CLX or UL with the Scum Back M75s!!

Mark stole from Steve ...

actually kidding but yes he did work at VHT. in fact this was ONE of the very first things that I thought was shady .Mark went behind steve fryette's back to get his transformers. Steve Fryette public called him out on it on the VHT forum when he was crying foul .Steve also then went out to give Mark a good work refrence to Reinhold Bogner.
But that one thread on that VHT forum with Mark swearing at Fryette ..when Fryette pointed out how he had blatantly tried to rip his transformers by contacting the company and inquiring behind his back ...that was enough to make ya go hmmm
