CCV vs. CCM

So obviously the CCV get's retardedly heavy and seems to stay well defined. I'm really curious about the CCM though. I'm not a big fan of hair metal and the metal I prefer is old Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Prong Cleansing type stuff. I also really dig the heavier COC type tones which might be too spongy for the CCM. Is the CCM just a super tight, sticatto machine or can it still bloom a little like the CCV seems it can. I mainly play classic rock but have a Metro plexi that covers that stuff perfectly. Would love a dedicated heavy amp and wonder if a commitment to the CCM is in order or would the CCV do it in spades and still give me the classic tones too. Are the channel setups the same on each model but just voiced differently. ie. Ch1 can do clean or dirty.

I've heard many clips of amps and mods on-line from Friedman and Fortin and the like and the Cameron's are the only ones that every time sound killer. I wish I could play them in person. I'd probably know in 5 minutes which one "feels" better.

You Really Do Need to hear it in Person... My expirience is that You will be blown away with it In PERSON. Expecially when paired with a Tight Solid cab w/ H30/CL80 in an X-Pattern, Or if like me you like the BEEF ALL CL80's

I think You Should set your sights on a CCV for sure. It can do Metallica to Bon Jovi (yuk) LOL!

And even do More Modern stuff... It's the most versatile for sure... Watch some video of Nicks Band with the CCV if He has them... He plays exclusively NEW METAL, and the CCV is his No# 1

I still don't like four G12-80's in the Cameron cab (very dark), but love them in a Marshall cab. I am too lazy to mix the 80's with some H30's. Heck, I have been lazy to try out four H30's in the Cameron cab.

pot head....

Yeah, I sure could do without the Bon Jovi reference. In some of the clips it sounds like the low end might be a little softer/rounder/squishy for old school thrash metal type stuff. I can hear the djunk but it's a softer one. Would a CCM be a better choice for Ride The lightning or Reign In Blood type tones or can a CCV do those. On the other hand can a CCM do Back In Black on CH1 or is to stiff? Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever get to hear one of these in person unless by some strange happenstance I'm in L.A which after 5 years living in So Cal is on the bottom of my destination list.

It seems a CCM might be the one to save for as I'm looking for an amp that does heavy tones my Metro w/pedals can't do. It seems like a lot of the CCV's territory might be handled by the Metro.

My metro is a stock 1969 era 1959 circuit but without the bypass cap on V2a. I just don't want to spend that kind of money on an amp that in many ways is a boosted derivative of what I already have. I know in the room it may be a lot different but would it in a recording be all that different from a 1959 with a good pedal. I feel maybe the CCM or a Mark IV Boogie might work better with/against my Metro.

Having played both of the side by side and in an alone setting, they are similar but different. Both can get heavy and mean, but the CCV is a little more smooth and dark and the CCM is more aggressive and bright. Both amps have the ability to be chewy or tight… the easiest way is to reduce the gain levels a little bit. Since both amps can get very saturated, lowering the gain actually tightens up the amps…but they both stay very saturated. Another thing is the hi/low power switch. Higher power will be tighter and less forgiving, lower power is more chewy and forgiving. Their voicings are different enough to justify owning both!!

I've now officially placed a down payment on a CCM.

Even though I do detest L.A. one day, when i have a decent mount of room on my credit card I'm going down for an amp show or just to check out Tone Merchants and other places. Try and put all the what if's to bed and find the true must have amps or brands for myself. Considering how much these amps cost, plane fare and a night at a cheap hotel isn't that ridiculous.

There's a new term for tone experts.....CHEWY :D

i heard from mark that the CCM was all chris's idea for marketing. Mark didnt want to do the CCM but Chris talked him into it.

regardless, congratulations on your CCM downpayment. sit back and enjoy the wait - it will be well worth it :)

To me, chewy is having a bottom end that is not too tight, but not to loose.

I think of it as a low end response that doesn't stop on a dime per se but still has definition on aggressive playing. Call it a "bloom" if you will. The Gearpager's love that one, it's a Dumble word.
