Hey, I am an FNG on this, so any advice would really be appreciated.

I have a Laney HCM412A cabinet and am thinking of replacement speakers cause I bought it used and it is pretty old and I just generally am looking for a better sound. SO, the cabinet is rated at 200W 8 ohms. I am looking at Eminence speakers "Wizard" but the measurements are 12" 304.8mm (nominal basket diameter) vs. 12" 305mm for the celestion rocket 50's that are in there now. The Laney Home Page lists the mounting measurements at 12.2" and 309mm. Will the Wizards fit?

Also, the wizards are rated at 75 watts and the Rocket 50's are 50 watts, does this make a difference?

Lastly, one of my friends swears that the Celestion 30 Vintage are the GREATEST EVER, but they are 60 watts....???

Can anybody spare a minute and clear this all up for me?

Thanks!

The speaker being the last filter in the signal chain can make or break your tone.

V30 is midrange and has a harsh 2k spike. It's cuts well but many dislike the spike.

The wizard will make your amp unbelievably loud at 103 db. It does sound great but has a cutting high that can get harsh.

The wattage is most important for safety. You must use speakers with a combined watts that at least equals the amp but preferably double.

If you are looking t experiment and no blw a lot of cash see the wgs guitar speakers. They have copies o all of he celestios a great prices and great quality.

sully62,welcome to the board man!!!! I personally Love the V30s

Welcome sully!!

Huge question, huge answer... You have to let your ears be the judge, not the opinions of people here, unless they've used both and can speak about them in an unbiased way.

I've used both, just so happens I have a lot of Celestion in my life...but that just sorta happened. New cab will be loaded with Eminence designed speakers, so it goes, it just happened that way.

Peace,
V.

I found speakers to be very amp and style specific. So we really need to know those things before any serious recommendations can be made. Also is your cab front or rear loaded?
