Contemplating some channel strip plugins along the lines of the SSL 4000 series, API or Neve. Curious what makers out there some of you have tried and really like, or ones you thought weren't worth it. Currently using Logic. I've checked out Brainworx so far.

i just use waves, i have the SSL G and G compressor, the 1176, LA2/3A, the api eq's, thats all i use. i have the scheps omni channel i use too which is a cool all in one thing, the gate on it is awesome

I use the Brainworx ssl 4000 E and love it.

Sometimes I use a Neve emulation and I'll use the Lindell 80 series from Plugin Alliance or Softube's British Class A, both sound great.

Waves sounds good too but I don't want to support the pay to upgrade model they switched to.

I've heard really good things about the UAD ssl channel strip too but what I use works good so I havn't seen a need to try it yet.

Plugins are a grift..
Whatever you get make sure you get a download that you OWN not a subscription..

Any reason you chose the E series over the G?

Scheps. Omni. Strip.

It's a little more complex but can do basically all the big console sounds plus a whole lot more.

I could get away with it being the ONLY fx plug in I use

The hi pass, lo pass, for guitar and the saturation for drums are worth the money by themselves

Combined with everything else it's the best value for money I've ever spent on a plug in

I want to try the G just to compare sometime but I have always read that the G is a little more "clean" sounding than the E. I wanted the saturation from the console though and I already have the SSL Native Channel Strip (from SSL) that is modeled after a 9000K console which is already supposed to be super clean sounding. I use the E on individual tracks and I might use the 9000K on a bus.

I agree, I think inlaid $30 or whatever for each plugin where that was $30 I believe, definitely worth it

FYI, Just got an email from Waves reminding me again why I avoid them as a company. I bought the plugins that they are emailing me about a year ago, so after a year you lose your second license for another machine and can no longer upgrade the plugin without repaying. If you do pay them again (around $5-10 per plugin you "own" from them), you only gain the 2nd license and upgrades for another year and have to pay them again yearly. I'll pass on that pay model.
