I've got a rare Model 5A that is awesome, except it won't stay in tune. The behind-the-nut locking nut is just garbage. Has anyone added a Floyd nut to one? How about locking tuners?

Have you checked out the 'pads' on the string lock? If they are super worn, they won't grip the strings no matter how tight the screws are.

Otherwise, you can track down a Kahler string lock and you might have better luck. Installing a OFR locking nut means removing the nut, building a shelf to support the locking nut, and then you'll be left with visible mounting holes from the string lock.

Definitely try a new one first. I have had several of these clamps and the nuts clamps wear out or get grooved up. The Floyds are crappy also. They are standard spacing but a Scahller should drop in.Did on a couple of Model 6's I had

Ok, I'll swap out the nut first. This is my first guitar with the JT-6. It seems decent quality, but I don't love the feel of it. I bet I will swap in a Floyd eventually. I've already swapped in a new JB for the J-80C or whatever was in there, and that helped the tone a bit.
