What should my next guitar be? I love both. they have similar features, two humbuckers, strat body, larger frets than standard strat, 1 vol knob, both look BADASS. Both similar price range.

Ofcourse one has a floyd and the other doesnt. What do you guys think otherwise? It may come down to one having a floyd and the other not. I like a modern neck but not Ibanez/Jackson flat necks.. like the one on my '04 LTD mh400. just not a baseball bat neck.

This is one of those things that's a personal decision IMO...no amount of feedback from anybody else will determine which one is right for you (given similar quality). Play them and see if you bond with one or the other.

I had a san dimas 1 and now have the jim root strat,i prefer the jim root strat but thats just me! :)

I would take the Charvel in a heartbeat. But that is because I love Charvels and floyds and despise EMG's and guitars with no fret markers......

I agree with this, although I do like EMG's sometimes.

I think with this, it's just a matter of personal opinion. Best play both of them if you can and find the one you like the best.

Nowhere within 2 hours drive of where I live stocks them AFAIK, otherwise I'd just go play both. =/

i didnt even know jim root had a signature strat, imma have to look into that.

i noticed that the jim root has the large headstock compared to the smaller headstock of the charvels. it isnt a huge difference but i know some prefer one over the other. then decide if you want the floyd rose or not. secondly the charvels have more color options, and pickups arent a huge deal because they can be swapped out if need be. both are more than likely going to play great, it just an matter of visual preference and wether you want a floyd rose or not ... good luck with your choice, either one should be fun to play

edit :: did they ever make a charvel san dimas style 1-2h in white ?? i have seen the black ones and all the other custom colored guitars, but havent come across a white one yet (which would be awesome) ..

Thanks man. :) I'm just wondering if there's any features/differences I should know that I'm not aware of. Do you (or anyone else) know if the necks/radius are different? I'm sure they'll both be a more modern approach to a traditional strat neck. :)

I think the big headstock has some extra mojo to it. Extra sustain? I'm sure TGP would say so

What do you prefer about it? Feature wise?

Thanks buddy, I don't think that's an option for me though, living in the UK. I know several Fender dealers who could oder me a Fender/Charvel to the store though.

I much prefer the neck shape of the Charvel. But after playing both there is really not much of a quality differance, it would really be personal preference. Try your best to get hold of both to try out.

Thanks. So how are the neck shapes? also what guitars do they compare to? incase I can't get hold of either to try.

I use 11-50 gauge strings on my LTD so I'd need fairly low action. This is something that put me off strats, I'm assuming the Jim Root is different. I'm not a shredder really but I like to be able to.

The Charvel neck is much flatter, and the guitar has much more attack and bite than the Fender. The Jim Root has more thickness and the neck is more curved so playing higher up the neck is not as easy as the Charvel (due to the compound radius).

I will put it this way I have been gigging the Charvel for a year and I now will not play anything else. I love it, the way it plays, the feel and its reliability. I have no doubt that the Fender is great but I did not want to run to the till and buy it when I played it.

Cheers Tony

Warmoth stuff is so hit or miss though. The custom Strat I pieced together looked amazing but sounded like shit. I'd go with the Charvel. Much more consistency as far as getting a really good sounding guitar. The SD2 I had was awesome and you rarely ever hear any complaints about them.

Both of my Warmoths are hits. Sure it wasn't your set-up or bad selection of components?

Not to say they couldn't have had a bad piece of wood, but that goes for any builder.
