Hello everyone,

after last rehersal I flew over while carring my beloved Herbert as it was icy as fuck here in southern germany :-(

It was a drop of about 25cm to 50cm... After the first shock I examined it and was quite happy because it seemd allright. Everything is at its place nothing is detached, Powertubes are OK. This thing is really built like a tank.

I turned it on and found out that everything works except the 3rd channel. The sound is very quiet but still reacts to the channelvolume poti. As Everyting else works just finde can I assume its only one of the 3rd channels preamp tubes? What else could be broken?

Thanks and best regards to the Master and all Diezel users
Alex

Check V2, it may be broken.

Herbert:

V1 Used by all channels
V2 Used by channel 3
V3 Used by all channels
V4 Mixer & Loop Driver
V5 Return Driver
V6 Phase Inverter

Thanks, for your fast reply!

I really hope it's just a broken tube...

I will try it out and report back!

how did you fare in the crash? it would take a hell of a lot more of a fall than that to hurt a diezel!

change V2......

Mojo sent... To you and the Herb, he'll get better fast - no worries there

V.

Thanks everyone for helping and your kind word!

Today I found the time to check the tubes:

I switched v1, v2 and v3 using every constellation but the behaviour stays the same :-( Everything works except Ch3

When I remove v2 theres no sound at all on channel 3. So I assume it is not v2 but something involved in that gain stage. I fliped the amp around and took a look inside and everything looks perfect. It's built to last a 100 years, what can be broken?

I try to describe it a little bettter: The sound on Ch3 is very quiet compared to the others and sounds like a very thin clean channel with gain at noon. When I turn the gain all the way up it starts to distort and some louder cracking/scratching noise comes in.

Other suggestions?

best regards
Alex

I hope you used new preamp tubes and did not just swap the old ones from spot to spot ???
V2 is for Channel 3 only.

For now I just swaped the old ones. But my test shows that none of them works as V2 but in other positions they work including the one which was in V2 at the beginning.

I just ordered new tubes. But according to my test I feel it wont't solve the problem...

If you switched tubes and still have the exact problem then its not a bad preamp tube. Sorry to say that...

yes, thats what I thought...

I guess there are no other options then to send it back for repair?!
