One of my favorite players and one of my favorite albums. Really underrated guitarist IMO. He played with so much feel and emotion and had such a cool style. All of his stuff is great, but I'd say Edge Of Thorns had his best playing. Enjoy!

1. Edge Of Thorns 0:01-1:18
2. He Carves His Stones - First Solo 1:19-1:59
3. He Carves His Stones - Second Solo 2:00-3:17 (My favorite solo ever.)
4. Lights Out - First Solo 3:18-3:30
5. Lights Out - Second Solo 3:31-4:18
6. Skraggy's Tomb - 4:19-4:59
7. Follow Me - First Solo 5:00-6:05 (So much emotion in this one.)
8. Follow Me - Second Solo 6:06-6:56
9. Degrees Of Sanity 6:57-8:15
10. Conversation Piece 8:16-8:43 (Super aggressive, pick heavy intro part FTW.)
11. All That I Bleed 8:44-9:40
12. Damien 9:41-10:06
13. Miles Away 10:07-10:51

Yeah..awesome player.

I get chills everytime I listen to the second solo in He Carves His Stones. So awesome. Such a shame he was killed at age 30 by a worthless drunk driver. :aww:

Definately a great guitar player. It's a shame Savatage never received mass recognition. I remember hearing Cris for the first time. I went to buy one of there albums. The one I ended up buying was the one without him. :aww: I did not know he had passed away.

That CD has been in my normal rotation since it came out. We opened up for them when they toured for Edge of Thorns shortly before Criss passed away. Some of my favorite solo's too. He was a really cool guy. Went out for breakfast with him after the show that night.

My old best friend/roomate/drummer is playinng with Zak Stevens in Circle 2 Circle now too. Pretty cool.

That was awesome  I'm not real familiar with these guys, that's some killer playing with some awesome tone, thanks!

Yeah, definitely pick up the whole album, it's great! Criss used a steel pick so that was a big part of his tone too.

I always loved his playing. I was hooked the first time I heard him which was the cheezy video to HOTMK.

In my top 5 players of all time. He is kinda hard to copy as well since he is all over the place. My favorite song is hall of the mt king. I loved playing that song live!!!

Great album! Personally, I love 24 Hours Ago. His lead playing on that was mint.

Funny...what gives me chills is that Chord progression on "Follow me" when the vocals kick in....the part were Zak sings "His Whole Life Was Written, Written there inside.." I love how full they sound.

EOT is my favorite album of ALL TIME, has been since its conception....followed by Mindcrime of course.

There is not one bad moment on the album. I have to email my brother and get a copy of our old band doing "Skraggy's Tomb" live back in '96! You will get a kick outta it.

Man that's another thing I love about the solos on EOS, the way that in the middle of a solo Zak will just come in with a vocal part and Criss will still be wailing away.

Would be badass to hear that cover too.

One more thing....You know what used to piss me off to no end:

When I would see Savatage with Skolnick how on "All That I Bleed" he would play a different solo than Criss wrote. Sorry, I know he is a different guitarist, but it isn't too tough to learn, but that song was super emotional for everyone after his passing, and to not play it the way it was written made me wanna jump on stage and smoke skolnick and play it the way it was meant to be played!

-rant over :gethim:

yep, definately one of my favorite guitarists of ALL time!!! a huge loss, indeed!!! :(

I heard dave mustaine was a big fan of him and wanted him to be in megadeth, I wonder what rust in peace would have sounded like if he accepted the offer?

Hard to say, but it would definitely be interesting. I much prefer Criss' lead playing over Marty's.
