Hi guys,
Its Peter from sunny Australia. I have had my MOD50 (DLX & SL2) for 4 days now and i am effectively RESURRECTED!!! Do you hear that Bruce? You are the only human since Jesus to" resurrect a human!!! Praise the Eg-Lord!!!
Anyway, the topic of this forum is a "high-gain" comparison between the MOD50, the Tour master, and the Diezel Einstein. I have heard some Tourmaster and Einstein clips on You Tube and some of them are "RESURRECTION" material. Can someone pleeeease answer the following questions as i am considering selling my MOD50 for one of these other amps. But, i don't want to make a huge mistake--LIKE I ALWAYS DO.
1. Is the high gain channel of the Tourmaster based on any of the modules? If so, which module does it represent?
2. If not, which module would be similar to the high gain Tourmaster channel?
3. Which of the Egnater modules is closest to the high gain channel of the Diezel Einstein (Think Van Halen-type high gain, not metal)
4. If price was no object, and you only had one choice, which amp would choose for high gain Van-Halen-type sound ONLY?
5. Which Egnater module represents the Van Halen-type high gain sound?
Thanks guys and i hope these questions don't sound too pretentious.

If you are looking for high gain, keep your MOD50, buy a EG5 module, and weep for the amount of gain available to you.

I really don't think there is a comparison  If money was no object,I would still own the Mod and his faithful sidekick(Rebel)  4 days days is not enough time to swap mods or tubes to your liking!!!Every time I run the Mod with a different module,it's like I bought a new amp!!!This amp rocks for me at least!!!!

Not totally happy with the SL2? You can get some different variations out of the SL2 by swapping the tubes.

I can only answer 4 & 5.
4. Would be MOD50 with SL2 or EG3/4 more so than any one of the 50 Marshalls I’ve owned in the last 25 years.
5. I have to say EG3/4.

Keep in mind that emulating any of your guitar heroes requires the base amp tone, signal processing, guitar setup and my wife’s favorite, fingering technique.

Thanks guys,
Your answers beg more questions:

1...Are the EG3--4--5 graded in terms of gain (3 having the least and 5 having the most?).
2...If so, which amps are they modeled from-mesa, soldano etc?
3...Where can you buy an EG5 from?, its not on the Enater website.
4...If you were to organize the modules in terms of gain (from mild to wild) would the following order be correct: DLX, BMAN, SL, SL2, ERECT, EG3/4, EG5, MHG

Sorry for all the questions but i have fallen in love with this thing and i am seriously considering buying an m4 to patch into MOD50 for a 12 channel MEGA versatile amp!!! I might have to mortgage my house though--you only live once!!

Peter Ill answer the best I can:

1) Yes
2) EG3/4 is Bruce's take on high gain Marshall but is a little smoother / darker. Comparable in gain to SL2 (which has more bite)
3) EG5 can be ordered from any Egnater dealer. It is the replacement for MHG which was discontinued. The EG5 is similar flavor to MHG, but cuts through better in a full mix. Its very much Soldano voiced with alot of high mids and tons of gain
4) T/D, DLX, BMan, Vx have similar amounts of medium gain on B channel and varying amounts of clean headroom on A channel (Vx having least headroom, T having most). EG3/4, SL2, and E-Rect are all high gain. EG5 is the most high gain (think SLO-100, Uberschall, Diezel Herbert).

I think that sums it up nicely. I would venture to say the VX has way more gain on Channel B than the T/D channel B. Never played a BMan or DLX.

The EG5 is great. Can do Van Hagar tone easily. To my ears, Channel A is gobs of gain and Channel B is gobs of gain and some compression. Love EG5!

Never played the SL2 or EG3/4 but there are some GREAT clips in the "clip collective" thread.

You might be right about the Vx marcus. Been awhile since I had one (though Im borrowing one now Ill play it tonight!)

You are right about EG5. Some +- 9 cents detune, a little delay, and youve got the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tone! All you need is EVHs hands from back then!

EG5 is a beast. I was rocking on Matt's EG5 the other night, and it just sounds fantastic. I feel like that particular module takes more "tweaking" to get it set right, but once it's set, lookout!!!!

I'll second that the vx B has a lot more gain than my DLX B; My dlx b has a good blues kind of gain, while vx b can get you a good medium/high gain (more foo fighters kind of gain rather than say thrash or metal). I actually have my vx B set up similar to my erect in terms of gain, but they sound different. The erect has a ton of gain still left on tap, I'm usually only around 12 on the B channel.

Again,
i must thank you guys for great advice--it is much appreciated that's for sure. Cheers
