Guys, I hate to be a dork here but I'm the only one on the planet that cannot watch youtube videos. It says "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

I've unloaded and downloaded flash player several times and when I run the "version checker" it says I have 9.0 or whatever is the latest.

I've also gone to my security tab and prompted or enabled all my javascript stuff. I'm just at a loss and so frustrated.

Plus I can not listen to John's clips......it says something like "you have enabled pop up blocker, if so click here"......I click there and nothing happens. Sucks......

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Not sure whats going on, but try installing Firefox browser and using that. IE is not compliant with all the web standards. It should work with IE anyway, but who knows. Plus, Firefox is a much better, more secure browser.

http://www.firefox.com

Thanks man, I just downloaded and am on Firefox right now and it does the exact same things. I'm running through a LinkSys Router........could that cause problems? I'm at a loss. Plus I'm a dork when it comes to this stuff too.............

Kevin

It's not the router if you can get on the internet.

have you tried a hard restart of your computer?

You'll need to list your computer info OS version and more details if you want more help.

Or just buy a mac.

If I knew what a "hard restart" was, I'd give it a try! See, I'm a moron....... :aww:

I'm running Windows XP Pro version 2002?? Is that what you mean by OS version??

A hard restart means turning the computer off (shutting it down) and then starting it up again a few minutes later. As opposed to just re-booting it. This has been known to help millions of gremlins in the computer and it is the first thing any support desk will ask you to do.

Make sure your OS (operating system - Windows XP Pro) is currently up to date with all the Windows updates.

Ok, thanks man. Yeah, I do the shut down thing. I'll check on the updates.

I'll just let it go.......don't need to clog up the board with this crap..

Is youtube the only problem? I mean can you view other flash webpages?

The three main one's are the youtube, soundclick files.......it will say, you have pop up blocker enabled, click here to play. When I click it does nothing.

When I go to the flash player download, I hit the download button (and hit the agreement thing) and it just refreshes and does nothing.

I don't know what other sites require flash player.

I suspect your flash player isnt really installed. And it might be your privacy or security settings stopping you. Try playing with those. In IE probably under Tools -> Internet Options. Make sure Java and JavaScript are enabled. Accept cookies. And try making your popup blocker off just while you download and install flash.

Thanks for trying man. Just downloaded flash player. It put the icon on my desktop and I ran the file. It says I have the latest version on my computer. Still the same results.

This is why I fucking hate windows. Please get a mac. That will resolve the issue.

Im joking...Kinda...Not really.

Does anything else with Flash work? You can go to Macromedia's website and try to download Flash and if it says you have it already installed then it's not Flash that's the problem but possibly some settings. In any case I recommend just using Firefox or Opera. Microsoft software has a tendency to develop random obscure problems.

It just keeps putting the install flash icon on my desktop and when I "install" it, it will do it's thing for like 2 or 3 seconds then says "complete". It never says "you already have flash player installed".

I've never had a Mac. Are they easy to use? Can you do basic spreadsheets and stuff? I always thought they were mostly just for multimedia. I do alot of spreadsheet stuff for work.

+1 on the Mac comment. I have 3 mac's. If you need windows, get VMware Fusion. You can load windows on top of the new Intel based macs. Gives you the best of both worlds, if you need it. But Microsoft Office or Openoffice both runs on Windows and Mac. But I'd really recommend Linux...hahaha... that's only because I used to work at Red Hat ;).

I was a consultant for them. I've worked at VERITAS as a Storage and Clustering consultant, Red Hat as a consultant. Now I'm a Technical Product Manager for Symantec working on Storage and Clustering as a product manager.

I'm just a big geek man ;).

Eric

Your security software is messing you up. Not sure what you have installed and/or running, but I would bet that is the source of your problems. Try disabling it and installing flash.

In that case, could you pass on the message to the people working on the Norton Antivirus stuff that they make one of the worst products ever to grace a computer. ;)
