At the Meridian in Houston. Great venue.
This band that opened for them, Kamchatka, was a pretty cool 3 piece blues/hard rock outfit from Sweden with a really sick lead guitarist.
Clutch fucking ROCKED like crazy. Sick tone, too. Neil was using a Custom Audio OD100 or, whatever the hell they're called these days, through an Orange 4x12. He has an INSANE amount of charisma. He controlled the crowd and whipped it into a frenzy that I've only seen those creepy evangelical preachers be able to do.
My only problem with Clutch was that they would occasionally play jammy instrumentals, which I'm fine with, but they're not really great players so it would get boring when they jammed on the same riff for four minutes at a time sometimes, but when they were rocking, they were FUCKING ROCKING.
I was a Clutch fan before this, but I'm really impressed. I also love how at Clutch shows, or at least this one, everyone knew every damned lyric, even from obscure songs off of way early albums. It felt good to be surrounded by fans instead of people who just got dragged to the show, or people who were only there to see another band, as is usually the case.
