I was wondering can you pull the 2 outer or 2 inner power tubes to run the amp at 50 watts? Thanks Mike

as far as i know , yes !
thats the reason why i did choose the 100 watt version, but i noticed that this is beast is really fucking loud. the next time im gonna change my tubes ill try running it on 50 watt.
i hope im not wrong , i could swear i heart that a 1000 times. greets

Next time you get tubes, it mat also be a good Idea to get a matched sextet. Use the quads in the sextet for full power usage, and the duet for half power usage, that way you won't get uneven tube wear.

And, don't forget about changing impedance, if you go from 100 watts to 50 watts!

I do doubt that there will be much benefit in terms of reducing the loudness, but you definitely will loose some headroom.

Hi,
there is no problem to run Einstein in 50W. But you have to connect a 16Ohm Box at the 8Ohm Jack, on 8Ohm to 4Ohm Jack. 4Ohm Speakers cannot be used.
The Einstein gets saturated earlier than running at 100W. Pretty cool in mode 2
But theres less low end in 50W-mode (not much)

Cheers

Yeah, make sure you pull the right combination of tubes.

On a side note, Slowhand, what's the amp in your sig. Looks sick!

So which ones would be the right ones?

@andy_cain: the outer or inner pair of the power-tubes (the big ones, labeled "EL34")

@ToneFreeq89: It´s one of my selfmade Amps (called ZZL-Model).
Some Facts:
2-Channels Design
Ch1.: Fender Blackface-Style with fixed Mids and switchable Bass-Cut
Ch2.: Boogie Red-Channel (most of it). Switchable gain-reduction and Mid-Cut (not as cool as Herbert´s ;) )
Tube driven Reverb (Thanks to Rockopa Peter!!)
Serial Loop
180W 6x 6L6 Power-Amp (or 60W with a flick of a switch)
And....yes, it´s sick :D

Cheers

I think the pairs are 1, 4 and 2,3 but I might be wrong. Better ask Olaf.

That's really fricken badass looking. I thought I was cool because I sorta modded my TT.

Yeah, that´s right!

Don´t half the impedance of the speaker output.
It´s an old and wrong opinion.

So just pull the outter two; or inner two power tubes?
Does it make a difference which?

Is this true peter? As duesentrieb told me that when i pull the power tubes from my herbert when i get to the studio i should half the impedence as slowhand said. I'm worried now as i was going to run my 8ohm uberkab into the 4 ohm output when i pull a pair of tubes to see whether it is my tubes that are defective or not when i get to the studio tomorrow. :aww:

Hmmmm, I don´t understand that.
I thought, it works like this:
By pulling a pair of tubes, the primary impedance gets twice as high. For example 6,8kOhm instead of 3,4kOhm. If you don´t half the sec.-impedance, the primary side "sees" 3,4kOhm further on. Then, the anode current increases. Half impedance = twice current. To much for the power tubes. Or not?
Hope there´s anyone out there lighting up the impedance-darkness

Cheers

Peter:
So for the Einstein; just pulling either set (inner or outter) of power tubes and leaving the cabinet plugged in where it is now (8ohm) will cut the power back to 50 watts and not harm the head or cab?

Please measure Your primary current ;)

Unbelievable. I was wrong for many years. I cannot explain why, but the primary current decreases.
So I have to apologize for posting this bullshit. :worship:
And thanks to Peter for the information :2thumbsup:
