Cornford Hurricane or Carrera (or something else)?- home use

I was just wondering what you all think of the Cornford Hurricane or Carrera- which would be better for home use? I’ve been able to try the Hurricane before, and it was excellent, but I suspect it would be too loud for home use as its best tones, in my opinion, were when the power stage got working a bit. Unfortunately, though, I can’t try the Carrera (there are no dealers here, and it would likely cost me more than the amp to get to a dealer), on paper it looks like it’d be better than the Hurricane for home use, but if it sounds completely different to the Hurricane, or sounds like a much smaller amp, then that wouldn’t be ideal...

Just wondering if you’ve tried them, and what you think? The main tone I’d be after is that Guthrie Govan-style lead guitar tone- warm, woody, organic but clear. Modern metal levels of dirt aren’t necessary, but enough to get that sustaining rock lead guitar tone.

Or if you can think of any other amp (preferably low wattage) which will do what I want, please feel free to recommend those too.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I played a Carrera about a year ago. I believe this is the one you can change various types of output tubes. It is a very versatile amp and sounds great. It sounded like a Cornford and had plenty of gain for the GG stuff.

Both myself and Rik have gotten a good amount of time on a hurricane. I freakin loved that amp. It was a nice cute little combo and I was like, this is just the cutest little thing...then I turned it on, plugged in a les paul, and I was like, HOLY SHIT WTF is this again?!?!?! It was like a modded marshall in a little combo. I was freakin stunned. Rik can back me up on this one! Next thing I knew I was jamming out some skid row and lynch on it... No boost...

wow, you guys are quick!

Thanks for that, both of you (though it's not helping the GAS   ). I know what you mean about the Hurricane, that amp kicked all kinds of ass, just worrying that it's probably a bit loud for home volumes (plus the Carrera allows you to switch power valves, which is cool).

I guess my thinking is that if the Carrera sounds similar to the Hurricane, but at lower volumes, I'd go with the Carrera (it's cheaper, too   ).

:)

ah man no doubt on the carerra being a bit cheaper, but just I got the hurricane sweet at low volumes too man no worries on that one!

argh, that's not helping me to decide either!

Cheers though, it's best I have all the info I can get.

I heard the Carrera could get Voxish and Marshall tones. The tubes that were in it when I played made it sound just like Josh said Marshall esque. I was looking to buy one, but now I am waiting to see if Suhr will be releasing a new amp combo.

thanks- i'd imagine that suhr amps would be ridiculously expensive here (at least judging by their guitars   ), plus I wouldn't be able to try them first... :(
