Anyone here owns/owned one? I'm talking about the Vintage Club 50 2x12 combo (tan or beige, all tube). Is it just like the Peavey Classic models? I used to own a Classic 30 and I ended up selling it because it wasn't "mean" enough, but boy it was a good sounding amp. I'm looking to get a smaller used amp, mainly because it's easy to carry around and for band practice. And it might just replace my Marshall halfstack (sounds good but a pain in the ass to lug around). Is it worth it? They are down right cheap and they might just fit the bill for what I'm doing (mostly classic rock but it has to be able to get to metal territory WITHOUT a pedal).

Oh yeah, I'm using a Les Paul Standard (Burstbuckers) and an Epiphone Sheraton.

Thx for your inputs.

Eric

The VC50 is a real solid amp, but is similar to the Peavey Classic series in style. The VC might have a bit more gain on tap, but I don't think it's really set up for heavy metal. Maybe some doom sort of tones...

It does have a few things the classic doesn't like a standby switch...

Thx for your input, that's what I was afraid of. The one I'm looking at is scary cheap, but I don't want to end up like I did with the Classic 30. I would have to put a pedal to have more grind, and I'm not the pedal type, I prefer to use the amp's overdrive... Anyway, I will give the amp a spin and see from there.

Thx man

The Vintage Clubs series are nice amps. Solid clean tones and 70's to early 80's British tones. It's got a nice creamy midrange tone. Can do hard rock, but it'll take a pedal to get into "metal" tones- depending on your idea of metal. It will cop British Steel types of tones.

Thx man. By metal I mean something like my DSL100 can take me. While I mostly play on the green crunch channel (DSL), I sometimes need to switch to overdrive 1 of my Marshall to get more mean. I know, the Crate won't be a Marshall, I just look for something close.

I'm not sure he's looking for an amp, as much has he has a line on a killer deal for the Crate.

Looking for an amp here, it's just that the deal on the Crate is insane, but I will not grab it. I will eventually replace my Marshall halfstack - I'm getting old, not gigging as much - and I'm trying to find something cheaper that'll get me close to what I have with the DSL.

Rivera M100 huh... Will try that for sure.
