Next month I will be beginning the mixdown of a well-known European prog-metal-fusion guitarist's album. Although he is getting great tones from his amps, we discussed reamping a DI signal into some Egnater goodness since I have a multi-room studio where I can blast the s&*t out of them, and some sick recording gear. it will be interesting to see if I actually feel compelled to do this when the faders start flying.

It go me thinking that this would be a cool way for the Egnater community to "taste test" other modules you don't have and get a great recording of your tracks. Guys who have the time, recording chops, and reamping equipment could offer a service to others who have the ability to track a good DI signal. Tracking the DI signal is the easy part. If you have a good quality DI box and, ideally, a buffer/splitter so you can run the signal into your amp while tracking into your PC. Although I would only be able to provide this service to my homies for a fee, there may be others here who would do it for beer money or just good nature.

I would be willing to do the same. I have a vast assortment of Egnater gear, and a lot of speaker cabs to choose from :)

good idea John!

I'd be game to participate... I've got an M4 with 9 modules, a VHT 2/50/2, an amp seminar head, a couple Randall cabs (V30's & T75's), and lotsa mics. Now I just need a direct box that isn't a total POS. :p

Not a direct box per-se but the mic eliminator built into the Randall cabs is very good...'bout time an Egnater had one of those :D

To track your guitar, you really need a decent DI to record your naked (un-amped) guitar into the DAW with. A good quality A/D converter will, of course, help. I like the Radial DI for this if not in the studio. If in the studio, I prefer using my Pacifica mic pre/DI by far. But that's a difference of $100 versus $2,000.

When re-amping, you need a re-amp device like the original John Cuniberti Reamp or similar to take the high line level back down to the very low level guitar signal without screwing up the phase in low to mid freqs. Most people prefer the Radial or the original Re-amp. http://www.reamp.com/ From there, it is off to the races chasing good recorded cab tone! Everyone has their own methods/secrets for this as it can be a struggle to even get something that doesn't suck more than a moder at first.

Yeah, in retrospect, I've got a decent means of capturing direct guitar tones... just not a good means of converting the line-level signals out of the DAW back to instrument level/impedance. I'll have to check out that radial box.
