D-Moll racked & ready for the weekend's Anzac Day gig. Got the SLO on standby to keep it company. D-Moll running through the Two Notes Torpedo Live, direct to FOH and active stage monitors - no cabs.

It's one of those amps that you can set everything around noon and rip without too much more twisting.

Is the SLO for backup?

Maybe you can use an amp switcher into the TN live and switch between the D moll and the SLO!

I am hoping that I am gonna love the D Moll which I have being shipped to me.

This is coming from a long time SLO user.

And, the D-Moll performed flawlessly through the Two Notes Torpedo Live direct to FOH without a cab. This was an outdoor gig and the amp dominates. Stayed on channel 3 most of the night and a bit on channel 2. Only effects were an ambient delay and BBE Sonic stomp in the loop and a wah up front. The BBE really rounds out the mid-cut nicely. It's one of those amps that doesn't need much help to stay crisp and clear while delivering the heavies.

To give you an ideal of the versatility of this amp (and I am the only guitarist in the band), covers on the set list included a lot of Metallica, System of a Down, Korn, Tool, Alice in Chains.

Glad I was able to get one of the first ones out of Peter's door. You guys that have them inbound are going be in for a treat.

The SLO's just living there. If had a problem with the Diezel, I could get the SLO going quickly. I got tired of the multiple amp rigs and all the wiring/switching. Being a cab isn't used, about the only thing that I would trust to work is an Egnater SS4. Or, the easier way to do it is an A/B switch up front and use (2) Two Notes Torpedo Live's so each amp would maintain a load.

But, I like the D-Moll so much, I may get a second one for back up. But hey, it's a Diezel. They don't need a back up.....

Looks great !!.. I'm wondering by the way, can you get close to VH4 Channel 3 zones with DMoll??

Sounds Killer Brother.....
I remember on both the VH4S and the Herbert.....I pretty much ran the EQ at about noon as well all the way across and sounded damn near perfect.

Try ch2 with midcut, it can get close-ish I'd say plus ch2 offers you lots of dynamics too.

Channel 2 of the D-Moll is Channel 3 of the VH4. Very tight and focused. It shares EQ with Channel 3, but 3 being voiced looser, more saturated than channel 2 at whatever EQ settings you dialed up for channel 2. The gain level on channel 3 doesn't need to be run past around 10:00 to get the goods. This amp does not compress either. It never looses focus at any gain level or channel master/main master setting.

Hey Steve looks great man. Nice rig. Head to head how does the dmoll stack against the Herbert ?? Tightness, bottom end Channel 2+ with mid cut etc. I placed an order from brad for a dmoll and was wondering I know you have had both.

I can't really remember the Herbert for an actual comparison. However, they have the same transformers. Similar most likely, but I am quite certain channel 2 of both amps are different with the D-Moll similar to Channel 3 of the Vh4. Channel 3 of the D-Molls seems more open and with a bit more of a metal edge than the Herbie. I may be mistaken though. Of course the Herbie with 6 power tubes is going to be a little more ballsy.

D-Moll is really starting to garner its own identity. I've been in the stands waiting and watching. I'm more interested in a souped up mega/crunch channel amp's domain right now; but if Ch.3 of the VH4 is prevalent in the D-Moll, that's never a bad thing. I've been really loving the Hagen - it's a fresh amp. Not sure what the D-Moll is bringing to the table in "freshness" but I suppose soon enough it's worth a try.

Bryan,

You can do it several ways, depending on what your output needs are. First, I am using 2 x RCF NX12 SNA monitors. They are 700 watt FRFR monitors. These monitors have XLR or 1/4" inputs and linked outputs. So you can run a line directly to one of the monitors and link out to the second monitor if you are just needing you from the monitors at home. I am running to a Mackie DL1608 mixer. The band uses this as the monitor mixer. That way, the rest of the band get my signal for their IEM's and I can mix the rest of the band into my monitor mix as I don't use IEM's. The signal is split, using a rack splitter and I send it direct to the FOH from there. So, my signal is running direct from the Torpedo to the rack splitter and split one side to the FOH desk and the other into a channel input of the Mackie. I use the main outs of the Mackie (R/L) back to my monitors. I can control how much of bass, vox and drums I want into my monitors then. So, the sound guy is totally hands-off our stage mix. You can always use the Aux Outs from a FOH mixer to get signal back to the monitors as well as band mix, or better yet, use a stage monitor for the band mix and 2 monitors just for you. It just depends on where you need signal to go and who needs to hear you. I like having two monitors just for me, in front of me like a traditional monitor. That way, the sound is directed back to me and not forward. You could also use these like a traditional cab and set them up that way behind you, or as a side wash beside you.

Steve
