So I took advantage of the promo, thinking I'd try them again in a different gauge and tuning. Turns out I really, truly dislike them. To my ear they don't have much overall body and are grating with the emphasis on the upper mids. I'm surprised that I like strings that cost half as much, twice as much. Just curious what others think. And for folks that do like them, they're currently a few bucks cheaper right now!

Tried 2 sets in 2 different guitars, took them off 2 days later and went back to my DR Titefit 10-46 set.

I am not saying they're bad strings, they just weren't for me. Some folks love them.

cheap EHX strings and my EBMM guitars need Ernie Ball RPS 10s, when MF does accessory sales I stock up.

I also get custom sets from stringjoy mentioned above.

I switched to NYXL two years ago and couldn't be happier with my string situation. They sound and feel good and last forever for me.

What do you like about them and what’s your application?

I play thrash/power/speed in standard or half step - generally playing stuff that's very, very fast. My clips are all over RT.

NYXLs stay bright and spanky for about twice or three times as long as the equivalent GHS boomers or Ernie Balls for me.

I use the 10-52s for 24.75 scale and 10-46 for 25.5 scale.

They hold tune - intonation, better than anything else imo.
And yes they’re stiff and I’ll add that they lack fullness but, last a long time.
Used to swear by them now I use rotosound, better tone is the main reason.

They're all I've used (metal) for years now. They last 6-12+ months depending on how much the guitar gets played, and I've never broken one- and most of my guitars are Kahlers.

They do soften up after a few hours of play. I've also never had one corrode on me.

I’m with OP. Grating, harsh, strident, lacking warmth and balls, mids shifted way too high. Tried ‘em on a few guitars and they were still too bright on my darkest guitars.

Love the regular D’Addario Nickel sets but the NYXLs always seem to be a bit stiff and lack the pop and vibrancy I like. I dunno if it’s the texture of the strings themselves or if there is a coating used in the manufacturing process but it almost feels like I’m playing flatwounds

I don't mind them, I use them here and there.
Tend to use more Stringjoy and Mangan though...

Yeah I didn’t like them either. I liked their coated XT strings better but in the end don’t find them worth the extra cost. On my darker sounding guitars or ones with EMG’s I’ll use either the regular D’addario Nickel wound or Ernie Balls, otherwise I mostly use DR Pure Blues and haven’t found any real reason to spend more.
