Ok...so far this damn thing has blown both the Crunch Box and the Box of Rock off my pedal board. Why do I keep buying OD/DS pedals?!

This might have been answered in the orignal PC thread ... but that was HUGE

I have one that I have been using, and I just seem to like my Barber Burn Unit better.

I've never played the Maxon 808 so I couldn't answer that question. I do hear it's quiet good though.

I really like mine too, works really well with amps that have a good amount of mids. I still really like my MI audio crunch box, it pretty much nails that hot rodded marshall sound.

The plank cranker has more gain than a OD808 and is thicker. It doesn't have the mid boost, so with my early SF fenders, this was a problem as they are a bit mid scouped. So I prefered my Maxon OD-808 and MI audio blues boy deluxe for those amps. But for my Vox, Marshall, and Mesa, I really like the plank cranker. I am getting a good collection of dirty boxes, once I get a Timmy, I will do a shoot out and figure out what I want to keep and what I should sell.

It is very versatile. I'm using it as an alternative distortion to the Krank channel, certain gigs where you need a lead channel but the Krank is too aggressive and pissed off sounding, like ballad-y stuff where you need more of a vintage smooth OD.
I still like the Krankshaft for boosting the Krank channel, I think it's because that is specicfically the job that the Krankshaft was engineered to do; boosting the Krank channel on a Rev1. But to be fair to the Plank Cranker, I have not tried it extensively as a boost yet.
I had a new Maxon 808 and both the Plank Cranker and the Krankshaft completely blow it out of the water. With my amp, the Maxon sounded muddy and muffled compared to the above.
I also appreciate that the Plank Cranker is true bypass. I can run it inline without having to put it in a looper.

That's an interesting comment. I found the crunch box to be overly bright and and nasaly?

Did you adjust the internal presence control? I didn't like the CB until I started adjusting that, I was able to get it balance between being bright enough, but not harsh. Stock setting was too bright and harsh.

The biggest weakness of the crunchbox was not having that pot available externally to adjust on the fly....

But doesn't overly bright pretty much describe a hot rodded Marshall? :D

Not my Silver jubilee, never played a JMP or JCM800 unfortunately....

Where can I get one of these?? How much are they?

Would it go well with my Splawn Quickrod?

thank you ;)

I didn't think it had one. I know the MI Audio Tube Zone does and I had heard some people say the same about the CB but it doesn't say anything about that on their web-site. I even opened it up to see if maybe they had changed that on certain versions but didn't see one on mine.

I believe it was a limited run and I don't think they're planning on making any more.

It works great with my Splawn Nitro so I'd imagine the plank cranker would work well with a QR.

Sounds like you got an early version of the crunch box, the newer ones have the internal pot to adjust, by newer I think the last couple of years production. Not a crunch box expert....

Could be. I e-mailed them to find out the serial number at which they started the internal pot so we'll see!

Will be using it with my 800...

That's exactly the differences as I know them too. The Plank Cranker is a pretty darn thick pedal, which is what I love about it.

dammit i want one now! Didnt have the disposable cash when the run went, now i do.

Anyone got one for sale?
