So, I went to the amp lounge Friday evening to pick up my M4 and make a final decision on the modules I wanted.

I had initially wanted: EG5, Erect, VX, and COD.


After playing the M4 for a while through a VHT 2902 and an Egnater 412, I decided I didn't like the COD.

Jeff threw in an SL2 module. It sounded fantastic. I thought, "sure. why not."



So, after I'm done building my seminar head on Saturday, I try the B-man module in the Mod50.

In short, it fuckin' killed. I had never heard myself play this way before. It was absolutely inspiring.

Then, for the hell of it, I tried the COD through the same Mod 50.

It sounded SOOOOOO good. I mean, I had never heard myself play this way before.

So, now I guess I need a couple more modules very soon and some kind of storage for the units.

Unbelievable. talk about a fun weekend.

Well, I bought both, but let me ellaborate.

I thought the EG5 was the end all tones for everything, but IMO, the SL2 sounds a little less contemporary and more like the rhythm sound I hear in my head.

I mean, I haven't had a chance to really open an amp up with them, and they both sound better than everything else, but I'll get back with more info. the EG5 has more gain, and a more interesting upper midrange.

I got a amp class build head from a guy that bought it directly from Egnater w/o doing the class (he said they had an extra).

If anyone is looking for a amp class build head, PM me. It rocks, but I don't need it when I have an EG5 .

I dont think there is a clear cut winner. They are both winners. They are slightly different and both amazing at what they do.

Im just curious as Gs has had the CAE, Hughes and kettner stuff and I think we kind both dig the same tones ..

im curious as to How those mods match against say HK .as all the Hk ive played Triamp, Duo .ive really dug

At the moment, I prefer the EG5. The SL2 doesn't have the nice bite of the EG5, but it does lower gain a lot better.

The SL2 and EG5 are what the CAE 3+ CH2 and CH3 should have been.

I haven't really played the HK in a while, and you have to differentiate whether you're playing module A or B in the HK.


however, EG5 vs IE4 ch4 is a great comparison.

IMO,

the EG5 has more bite, and an extended high end. Yet, it's forgiving. Think of some of the best Ratt tones you've ever heard. lay it down, you're in love, etc.

The IE4 Ch has a noticeable "swell" to it when playing solos due to its compressed nature. It's really warm and smooth. sounds like Schon or Lukather

The IE4 is like making out with a good-looking girl at the prom.

The EG5 is like the perfect combination of sex and pain. It RAWKS!
