Danny Carey is a Beast

One of the best without a doubt. Also probably the best live drum sound I've ever heard.

First time I was at a concert and paid attention to the drummer was the Aenima tour. 98? Maynard had on the brazier with tits. Paled in comparison to Danny's arms and legs just moving. Dude was captivating

Ya, I could watch him and Marco Minnemann all day.

I got to meet him about 15 years ago, he was super cool.

I'm baffled at his skill level, especially at his age.

Dude is on a whole other level and in a class of his own. The dynamics he plays with, regardless of what speed he’s playing at, is just insane. I never really understood Tool until I saw them live and those dynamics, all around, are such a huge part of their thing, but on a technical level for Danny to pull that shit off with such control over his volume is pretty nuts.

Really awesome set designs, as well. That bronze Sonor kit was pretty nuts, but I love his use of Roto-toms and electronic pads in favor of regular toms.

I feel like Danny and Tomas from Meshuggah are the best metal drummers by far. Mario from Gojira is amazing as well.

I’ve watched several versions of Pneuma including the Vic Firth close up and he is amazing. The poly rhythms are killer.

I saw them a year and a half ago and the kick was punishing. It hurt it was so loud. People were leaving because it hurt so much. I stayed thinking it HAD to improve. It actually got worse. Fucking ruined a great concert…kick so loud it was painful. And I payed thru the nose for that. Pissed me off that such a great performance was ruined. Everything was great…but that one thing ruined the night.

That's strange AF. I've seen Tool 5 or 6 times at this point and the live drum sound was godlike every time. The drums are definitely up in the mix but nothing like what you're talking about. Always sucks when the live mix is bad.
