Had an fbm cool amp but I was scared to use it. 🤣

Funny enough i was on the first batch orders for a dar forza? I think it was called. Went to the actual factory to check it out and it was pretty sweet. The guy in charge seemed like a nice guy and we spoke quite a bit.

I actually got a refund because it took so long. Sad to see this brand never really take off.

I’ve seen detailed gut shots back when the owner was developing it and active - the PCBs are all very custom and there’s a shit ton going on with analog design - the boards looked like motherboards.

I also know they used transformerless output meaning driving low impedances right off of the tubes. I know how that is done theoretically but damn is it not complicated with tubes to keep from everything thermally running away. It’s not like you can mount tubes on a heat sink.

To clone one of these you’d have to completely blow it apart on a bench and clone any of the safety/monitoring circuitry to go with it.
Your curiosity intrigues me… If I ever come across a second one for a decent price I wouldn’t mind teaming up with someone to blow one of these apart & reverse engineer it.. I could only imagine that task… you’ll be traveling to Mordor… lmao

I appreciate the idea, they look cool and use different tech.

The actual sound of it? Not exactly comparable to a wizard or larry or whatever, but it's certainly a thing.

I think Martin has the right idea - it's it's own thing, and there isn't anything like it, and that is cool in and of itself.

I don’t find them personally worth the effort and hassle to replicate. They sound different but not necessarily inspiring to my ears.

You were one of the victims with the extended wait time... I’m glad you were refunded! previous owners I’ve spoken to said the same thing.. offloaded them because the lack of serviceability lol. Do you remember your serial on the fbm?

I understand that! Never know tho an engineer could learn something along the way! I would primarily just want the schematic.. I have no clue what it sounds like.. haven’t played it yet so I can’t really say if it’s inspiring to me.. Once I get the chassis pulled & power supply number over to you & get the appropriate fuses I’ll be able to state my opinions.. I am partial to my Bogner’s for inspiration… nothing gets the job done quite like my green guy… however I was recently recommended the Wizard & Larry line from a few acquaintances..
